'Supergirl' season 6: Jennifer Cheon Garcia as supervillain Midnight promises to be a formidable foe for Kara Danvers

At the moment, it is unclear if this is an original character or has been borrowed from M1dn1ght (sometimes spelled 'Midnight'), a villain which debuted in 2017's Superwoman #15 by writer Kate Perkins and artist Sami Basri.

Tough times await Kara Danvers aka Supergirl. The CW superhero show is less than a fortnight away from its season 5 premiere, and this time, in addition to facing Lena Luthor's rage (Katie McGrath), there's a new villain in Jennifer Cheon Garcia's Midnight. Garcia ('The 100') was officially announced being cast as Midnight in July as a villain who is the living embodiment of darkness who escapes from an otherworldly maximum security prison. She starred as Ivory in Season 3 of 'Van Helsing', and has also appeared in 'Arrow', 'Supernatural', The 100 and 'Lucifer'.

At the moment, it is unclear if this is an original character or was borrowed from M1dn1ght (sometimes spelled 'Midnight'), a villain which debuted in 2017's Superwoman #15 by writer Kate Perkins and artist Sami Basri. The storyline explains that M1dn1ght was a computer program created by Lena Luthor to help free her from an inter-dimensional prison; after assisting Lena, M1dn1ght became uncontrollable and was ultimately stopped by Superwoman. There are several characters using Midnight as a name in DC comics with the character originally coming in as a  Robin-like vigilante and was made a member of the Freedom Fighters.

Going by the description of the character, it looks like this is a new take on the supervillain. The new 'Supergirl' teaser trailer gave us a first look at the character. Not a lot is known about Garcia's Midnight, but we can sure expect her to be a formidable threat to the girl of steel. In addition to Midnight, the new trailer also hints at strife between Kara (Melissa Benoist) and Lena. Season 4 finale revealed that  Lena discovered her best friend is actually Supergirl and it was a  revelation that changed everything and potentially putting Lena down a dark path in Season 5.

'Supergirl' season 5 will premiere on Sunday, October 6 at 9/8c on The CW.
