'Supergirl' Season 5: Will Kara and Lena finally bury the hatchet after 'Crisis on Infinite Earths'?

Assuming Lena returns after 'Crisis', the 'Supergirl' storylines will also shift back to the Leviathan—and the fight against Gamemnea (Cara Buono) and Rama Khan (Mitch Pileggi) might just be what may unite the two friends

Katie McGrath's Lena Luthor was a victim of the 'Crisis'. The battle saw Earth-38  being destroyed by the anti-matter wave and Lena was one of the casualties of war along with team Supergirl.

The last time we saw her, she agreed to help the team out and she opted to do so, not as a sign of friendship, but for the sake of the lives of billions.

Eventually, the Anti-Monitor had the final say, and Lena, along with the rest of the team, disintegrated with Earth-38

With the epic battle set to conclude after two more episodes, there is a possibility of Lena coming back and the storyline shifting to the Lena-Kara relationship angle that has been key to the plot so far in the series.

This is also a chance for the duo to make amends as it was a case where both were at fault.

While it can be argued that Lena was hurt the most, she did take things far by having her own alarming plan of "fixing" humanity.

And, had it not been for some support from Malefic, the Q-waves would have had dire consequences and Lena's twisted aspiration would have come to fruition.

Assuming Lena returns post 'Crisis', the 'Supergirl' storylines will also shift back to the Leviathan and the fight against Gamemnea (Cara Buono) and Rama Khan (Mitch Pileggi) might just be what may unite the two friends.

Ahead of the latest season, showrunner Jessica Queller in an interview with Comicbook had this to say about the duo's relationship: "I will just say that this season, Season 5, revolves almost entirely around their relationship. I can't promise to make all of the fans' dreams come true, but if they care about the relationship between Supergirl and Lena they'll get a lot of it this year."

This isn't the first time the significance of the Kara/Lena relationship will have in Season 5.

Back in July, Benoist described the season as a "fight for Lena's soul". And a fight it has been with episodes 7 and 8 firmly focusing on the duo's relationship.

For now, it looks like the 'Crisis' is a chance for the friends to forgive each other. But will Lena give in? Only time will tell.

'Crisis on Infinite Earths, Part 4' returns on January 14, 2020.
