This review contains spoilers for 'Supergirl' Season 5 Episode 8: 'The Wrath of Rama Khan'

The Malefic-J'onn storyline was a key part of each of the episodes since the premiere of Season 5 and 'The Wrath of Rama Khan' finally ties up the plot point. In the end, that was nothing more than a sibling rivalry — although it did threaten the safety of the universe. The episode sees Malefic join forces with the DEO to put an end to Lena's plans of using the Q-waves to control humanity to her will. With some additional support from Team Supergirl, Malefic manages to thwart Lena's plans. The final minutes see the brothers' exchange goodbyes and J'onn sending home to Mars to help play a pivotal role in the resistance.

This comes as a happy end and one that augurs well for the show. The brothers' storyline ending in the mid-season finale means the show is ready to move on to its next stage of storytelling — The 'Crisis' and the aftermath. At this stage, the movie works perfectly as the story had established Malefic as one of the key villains in the story and the fractured relationship between the brothers. Ultimately, it was a test by the Monitor (LaMonica Garrett) to J'onn, one that he passed. Now that it is well and done, the personal drama will take a back seat and the focus is purely on the imminent battle.

Plus, this may have not been the last we have seen of Malefic. With the Martian Manhunter series announced, there is more room to explore the relationship between the two brothers. It also remains to be seen if he makes it back to support the superheroes in the 'Crisis'.

What are your thoughts on the Malefic-J'onn storyline and the ending that was given to the White Martian?

'Supergirl' airs Sundays 9 pm on The CW.
