'Super Pumped: The Battle for Uber' gets negative response from fans: 'Really hard to watch'
It wasn't a great start for 'Super Pumped: The Battle for Uber' on social media as fans expressed their disappointment a few minutes into the episode. The anthology series whose first season is based on Mike Isaac’s bestselling book Super Pumped: The Battle for Uber' sees Joseph Gordon-Levitt play Uber CEO Travis Kalanick and the Showtime drama charts the rise and fall of the enigmatic personality.
Titled 'Grow or Die' the first episode was all about setting context on who Kalanick was. He's looking to land a partner to bankroll his fledgling company and has VC powerhouse, Bill Gurley (Kyle Chandler) in his sights. After the latter realizes that Kalanick is the real deal, he offers to invest in him. San Francisco MTA power-broker Randall Pearson (Richard Schiff) makes life tough for the UberCab (that's what it was known as before becoming Uber) and Kalanick has to find a way out to thrive.

That thought wasn't enough to impress the audience. "Found #SuperPumped quite perplexing, like they wrote the script before they read the book," one of the tweets read. This was seconded by another who wrote, "ugh #SuperPumped was so bad. Like, really hard to watch." The two cents continued. "Incredible, they spent so much on the cast and so little on the writing / factchecking #superpumped," a fan remarked. "Just as expected, less than 2 minutes in and I absolutely hate #SuperPumped To my old @Uber fam, onward and upward," a tweet read.
"So the #SuperPumped folks took some reeeaaalll liberties with characters, timelines, motives & a lot of other stuff but I guess that was kind of expected & maybe it gets more interesting after episode one?" one of the fans asked. "#SuperPumped was all over the place on timeline it was hard to keep up and I was there for a lot of it. At least Social Network was fictional but actually watchable/coherent. I watched it on a @Showtime free trial and I still ripped off + want my money back," a comment read.
"Am I just not a Koppelman/Levien fan anymore? #SuperPumped is meh so far," a fan remarked.
