How Erin Andrew combatted a stalker?
Andrews was followed by someone in 2008 as she made her way to a hotel in Nashville. Her stalker, Michael David Barrett, caught her on camera by altering the peephole in her room door. In response to the 2008 video that was recorded by Barrett and released online in 2009, Andrews filed a lawsuit against the Nashville Marriott at Vanderbilt University. Andrews requested $75 million in compensation. At her civil trial, she described the incident in great detail, as reported by the The Hollywood Reporter.
The jury watched the video and Andrews' attorneys hired a computer scientist who estimated that 16.8 million people had viewed the video's still images. A jury awarded Andrews $55 million in damages in March after finding the Nashville Marriott at Vanderbilt University responsible for the video along with the stalking involved on its premises, as per reports.
Erin Andrew's battle with cancer
Four months after the stalker trial, Andrews received a concerning call from her doctor early on a Saturday morning in September 2016. The results of additional testing that Andrews' gynaecologist had sent her for following an inconclusive annual exam a few months earlier were finally available in which she received the devastating news that she was diagnosed with cervical cancer, as reported by Copingmag. Andrews had two operations, and in November she received a call from her doctor informing her that the procedures had been successful and that she was cancer-free, as per reports.
After winning the battle against cancer, in an interview with ET’s Deidre Behar, Andrews said, “I get really emotional about it. My family has been through so much with everything that I've been through in my life, and it's just like, they need a break. My husband, that was a lot to deal with, and I don't really like dealing with the things like this in my life. I want to talk about next year's Super Bowl and Dancing With the Stars and the fall season, and everything like that. It's a lot but, to be honest with you, it could've been a lot worse and it could've gone a different way. So thankfully it didn't and thankfully I went and got tested."
