Super Bowl LIV: Jennifer Lopez unfurls Puerto Rico flag on stage and fans bow down to the 'kickass' moment
Bringing the house down during the Pepsi 2020 Super Bowl Half-time Show, Jennifer Lopez and Shakira paid tribute to their rich Latina culture and the city of Miami. During the performance, JLo made hearts pound as she sang a verse from Bruce Springsteen's iconic 'Born in the USA' while wearing a double-sided cape of the American flag that turned into a Puerto Rican flag.
The moment made Puerto Rican natives emotional and they couldn't thank the singer enough for reminding Donald Trump that the Caribbean island is very much a part of the USA and their people need to be stopped being treated like "second-class citizens."
"JLo out here reminding Trump that Puerto Rico is very much a part of America," one tweet read and another said, "Love that #JLo ‘s US flag opened to become the #PuertoRico flag! It’s about time some people were exposed to, well ... a super sexy 50 yo mother, Spanish, ululating, belly dancing, pole dancing, salsa and Latina women who kick a$$. It was amazing!"
"I want to add that #Jlo putting up the #PuertoRico flag in the middle of that performance was a "F*** YEA" moment from me. A reminder that #PuertoRico is an island of Americans that deserve the same rights, respects and support!" one fan posted and another wrote, "This moment made me very emotional. The people of #PuertoRico have been suffering for the last 2 yrs with little help from the empire. We will not let you look away & pretend we don’t exist."
Many thanked the pop star for putting the "beautiful culture on display." "That #SuperBowl halftime show was one of the most amazing representations of Puerto Rico and Latino music," one fan wrote and another said, "I came back down for the halftime show and I will say I am absolutely here for folks seeing this just part of LatinX broad and beautiful culture on display."
The roughly 15-minute performance began with a Shakira solo set with tracks like 'Forever', 'Hips Don’t Lie', and Cardi B’s 'I Like It'. A few minutes later, Lopez made a swashbuckling entry sliding down to the stage from the top of a tower. With renditions of 'Let’s Get Loud', 'Waka Waka' and her impressive pole dancing, she left onlookers speechless!
