Super Bowl LIV: Jennifer Lopez, Shakira were lip-syncing at halftime show? Ex-wrestling champion says they were

While Super Bowl fans could not stop singing praises of Shakira and Jennifer Lopez for their mind-blowing halftime show this year, one social media user was less than impressed — Former WCW TV Champion Glenn Gilbertti.

Gilbertti, who went by the Twitter handle @TheRealDisco tweeted on Sunday, saying, "Please stop talking about how great J lo and Shakira are tonight. They are lip-syncing. C'mon."

Needless to say, Gilbertti was in the minority as almost everyone else was convinced that the two Latino singers poured their hearts and souls delivering genuine performances during the show. There were also those people who commented saying that visuals, as opposed to the vocals, were what they were focusing on.

"Who cares they if they were lip syncing there (sic) dancing and show was off the charts best halftime time in a long time," one user wrote below Gilbertti's tweet, while another one commented, "They are attractive and got most of their anatomy showing. I wasn’t hearing the music!"

Meanwhile, another user, who claimed to have some knowledge about NFL policy pointed out that songs were always prerecorded to prevent gaffes.

"I worked at Qualcomm and they didn’t do the national anthems live either. It’s NFL policy. The performer comes out before the game, sings the song, they record it and they lip sing during the televised portion. Prevents screw ups and people saying stuff before or after," the user said.

It was earlier reported that Lady Gaga — whose halftime show at the Superbowl three years ago will always be remembered for its extravagance and opulence, filled with glitter, glamor as it featured one of the world's top-selling artists descending from the roof —threw some playful shade at this year's performers.

"I better hear no lip-syncing tomorrow!" she quipped during her appearance at a pre-Super Bowl party in Miami on February 1.

While many usually tune in for the halftime show expecting an amazing performance, including live vocals, singers have been called out for using backing tracks or in some cases downright lip-syncing — from Whitney Houston's 1991 rendition of The Star-Spangled Banner, a performance which came to be regarded as one of the best versions and was praised by many for Houston's 'live' vocals to the 2014 Red Hot Chili Peppers' stage with Bruno Mars that used pre-recorded instrumentals.
