Sun Moumou: Trapeze artist dies after falling 30ft as her husband failed to catch her amid risky stunt
ANHUI, CHINA: On Saturday, April 15, 2023, a trapeze performer named Sun Moumou died after her husband Zhang Moumou failed to catch her while performing a risky trick in Suzhou, China. The 37-year-old fell onto the hard stage, shocking the audience with the unforeseen tragedy that occurred.
Sun fell from more than 32 feet above the ground after Zhang failed to catch her with his legs as the couple carried out a dangerous position shift in midair, according to The Sun. Onlookers could be heard screaming in the terrifying video as Sun starts to lose control. The performance on the day of the incident as well as scheduled performances for the weekend were immediately canceled. Sun reportedly was brought to a hospital but the doctors were unable to save her life.

'We were always happy together'
A colleague claimed that Sun was still breathing "weakly" after the horrific fall, according to The Sun. Her husband Zhang said, "We were always happy together. As I am in the middle of the process of dealing with all of this, I can't disclose any specific details at this time."
Global Times reported that Anhui Yaxi Performing Art Media was fined more than Β£5,600 ($6,955.20) for "holding commercial performances without approval." Local officials have sent the victim's family their "deep condolences" and sympathies.
Authorities are looking into how Sun performed without the necessary safety measures. Sun has been performing alongside Zhang for many years and they allegedly performed without safety belts frequently. Zhang claimed that Sun had not "refused" to wear a safety line, according to the Sun.
