CLC's Sorn apologizes for posting photo of friend wearing racist mask after coming under fire from fans: 'Sorry for disappointing you'
Thai singer Sorn from K-pop group CLC posted an official apology to fans and the public after she shared a controversial story of her friend wearing a racist caricature mask on Instagram.
Sorn was trending number one on Twitter and it wasn't for all the right reasons. It was because she posted an Instagram story where her friend was seen wearing an African-American caricature mask that angered fans on the internet.
In her apology, Sorn said, "Hey everyone, in light of recent events, I sincerely apologize for my actions. Specifically, I am sorry for being culturally insensitive and in no way was I trying to intentionally offend anyone."
"In hindsight, I am realizing how this photo could have offended others. I am genuinely sorry and will reflect upon my mistakes. I am not asking for anyone's forgiveness but I am writing this message to say that I know how much people are hurt by the picture I posted last night," she added.
Sorn continued, "I understand people are allowed to feel and I am in no way expecting the people I offended to forgive me. Sorry guys and I'll make sure it doesn't happen again in the future. Sorry for disappointing you, Cheshire."
Before her apology, when netizens called her out for her racist post on her Instagram story, Sorn posted another IG story, telling people to chill. "Sometimes, some people just gotta chill. I'm not stupid.”
After she started to face a massive backlash from fans and netizens she deleted both the picture of her friend wearing the mask and the second story where she told fans to chill and issued an apology.
Sorn, whose full name is Chonnasorn Sajakul, was one among the first members of the K-pop group, CLC when they debuted in 2015. The girl group recently released their EP 'No.1' earlier this year in 2019.
