Sophie, Countess of Wessex, slammed as ‘boring’ replacement for Meghan and Harry as she takes up royal duties
Sophie, Countess of Wessex, has been dubbed ‘boring’ after reports claimed that she might have to take bigger roles since Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are no longer with the royal family.
Meghan and Harry stepped down as senior royal members in late March as they wanted to live a "financially independent" life away from Buckingham Palace. The Sussexes with their little son, Archie, are now living in Los Angeles, California after they recently moved there from Canada.
After their move, many predicted that the wife of Prince Edward will now fill up the gap in the royal rota left by the younger son and daughter-in-law of late lady Diana and Prince Charles. The prediction is based on reports that Sophie is a favorite of the Queen, so it will not be a surprise if the new role may fall to her, according to The Daily Express.
Royal commentator Marlene Koenig told the tabloid that Harry and Meghan won't "be needed" because of Sophie. “I also certainly think Sophie will be taking on more as well. don’t think they are needed - they are going to keep in touch with their charities."
But it seemed not everyone is happy with the mother-of-two stepping into the shoes of Meghan and Harry. The "supposedly feminist website" Jezebel in one of its pieces slammed the former PR girl as it called her “Harry and Meghan's polished, perfect, and boring replacement."
Kelly Faircloth, who wrote the piece for the website, insisted that Sophie cannot replace “the megawatt star power of Harry and Meghan.” “Sophie is being tapped to show up in the wake of somebody else’s drama and be as resolutely polite and boring as possible,” the writer said.
Faircloth also claimed that this is not the first time Sophie has performed such a task as she gave examples of Charles and Diana's divorce, and Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew's relationship troubles.
For her accomodative nature, Countess of Wessex is also loved by many fans of the royal family. Her and Edward’s marriage is the only first marriage of the Queen's children that did not end in a divorce. The pair together share two children, Lady Louise Windsor and James, Viscount Severn. They all live in Windsor.
In another related news, Sophie volunteered to cook and prepare meals for NHS frontline doctors and nurses fighting the COVID-19 pandemic. The royal worked with the London-based hospitality group Rhubarb to prepare the meals.
Rhubarb posted many pictures of Sophie on Instagram that showed the royal working alongside others in the kitchen. She was seen wearing masks, gloves, and apron as she prepared large servings of spaghetti. The caption of the post read: “Thank you to Her Royal Highness The Countess of Wessex for joining us today and working so hard in the kitchen at Rhubarb to prepare food for our heroic NHS Hospital Teams.”
"Her Royal Highness, The Countess of Wessex offered her time to help prepare these NHS meals. We were delighted to welcome her on Wednesday 15th April to our humble kitchens, where she joined our team and worked diligently with our chef brigade to prepare food for our heroic NHS Hospital Teams,” PB Jacobse, the CEO of the organization told BAZAAR.
