Sophie Turner and the cast of 'Game of Thrones' filmed in some really difficult conditions and had to abide by some really weird rules while filming the seasons of the hugely popular show. Judging by the places and the seasons shown in the series, harsh cold weather was the norm and so that would mean taking extra care of one's precious assets. Turns out Sophie had some really dark days on the sets while filming for the show. No, it wasn't due to the weather but it was to do with her lustrous locks.

In an interview with InStyle, the 22-year-old revealed that she was asked by the producers not to wash her hair while she was on the sets filming for the HBO series and that it went on years. Sophie was a natural blonde and had to spend years dyeing her hair a fiery red shade for her role as the show's heroine, Sansa Stark.

"Well, for the first few seasons I was allowed to wash my hair because I was an aristocratic young girl. Towards season 5 they started asking me to not wash my hair and it was really disgusting. Now I wear my wig so I can wash my hair whenever I want, which is nice. But yes, for a couple of years I was living with pretty greasy hair. "The actress, however, also confirmed that the male actors on the show also received similar requests.

"[It was] really itchy! Also, we would have the snow machines going so we would have little snow paper particles that would get stuck in the grease. It was disgusting," she added.

It wasn't until 2017, that Turner was allowed to go back to her natural color and that saved her hair from all the damage from the constant dye jobs. Given the show has so many seasons and in each Sansa seems to sport a different hairstyle and color, so one would assume her hair routine on sets would have taken considerable time. When she was asked whose hair routine took the longest on set, her answer was Emilia Clarke.

Emilia who plays Daenerys Targaryen had to recently dye her brunette hair platinum blonde in order to play her character better. Sophie explains about Emilia: "It's mainly the people with the wigs that take the longest because she needed a bald cap, a wig, and then had an intricate design on the wig. [but then she] dyed her hair blonde!"

Interestingly, Sophie said Kit Harington had the most intensive hair routine off-screen: "Before red carpets, you would always see him scrunching the ends of his curls to make sure they're perfect. We all take the piss out on him for that," she joked.

Addressing the issue on the crazy fan theories and symbolism behind the hairstyles, she said: "For so long, Sansa’s hair changed season by season depending on who was influencing her. The first few episodes she was a Northerner in Winterfell and took after her mother with a simple braid down the back. Then when she went to King’s Landing it was a big, decadent halo that was very much like what the Queen wore. With Littlefinger, she dyes her hair black and wears all black. Then she goes back to Winterfell and returns to her mother’s hair."

"She created her own identity in season seven and that kind of runs through to season eight.  She’s chosen how she wants her hair to be, and she’s finally the leader and influencer instead of being influenced by everyone else," said  Sophie who is really looking forward to the fans seeing the star's on-screen transformation for the final season.

Her hair-raising confession comes after the release date for Game Of Thrones' final season was announced as April 14.
