What did Joe Rogan discuss with Elon Musk?
The duo discussed the 2011 Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant disaster which left 100,000 people suffering from radiation poisoning.
People were worried about consuming water and local produce from the region following the collapse, but Musk was quick to point out that no one died from radiation.
The conversation led Rogan to point out how there are real secret killers hiding on the shelves of grocery stores, including tinned fish.
"You can get arsenic from sardines," Rogan told Musk, who started laughing after hearing the wild claim. "I found that out the hard way," the podcaster said.
Joe Rogan has been outspoken about his love for tinned fish
Rogan had a harrowing experience after he took his love for tinned fish too far. One day at a doctor's appointment, his physician pointed out there was a bit of arsenic in his blood and asked about his diet.
Rogan said he was consuming around three tins of fish per day, and his doctor advised him to cut back on his snacking habit.
"I got my bloodwork done a couple of months later and it was gone," he said. "That's a lot of sardines man," said Musk on hearing Rogan's story.
Consuming sardines can indeed make one suffer from arsenic poisoning
Research shows that people who heavily consume sardines can indeed suffer from arsenic poisoning. One study even found that a 45-year-old man suffered headaches and damaged nerve endings from his seafood-heavy diet. However, sardines are completely safe for people who limit their consumption.
Internet reacts after hearing Joe Rogan's story
Internet also reacted after they heard Rogan's undying fondness for sardines. One user wrote, "He’s like a character on SpongeBob", while another tweeted, "He said he was eating 3 tins/night. Relax - too much of anything will get to you somehow."

One user echoed, "And mercury. God, SO much mercury" while another said, "Marine fish have a nontoxic arsenic in them. Compounds with arsenic molecules in them. And the really toxic arsenic is the mineral or inorganic arsenic. Anyhow, some people are naturally resistant to arsenic because their people come from areas where people lived off naturally arsenic rich soil and water. Allegedly having a diet rich in sulfur rich foods can help you process it."
