‘Snowpiercer’ Season 4 Episode 4 Takeaway: Why Admiral Milius and his soldiers might be the true victims
Contains spoilers for 'Snowpiercer' Season 4
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: After permanently bidding goodbye to its biggest antagonists, Lilah Folger (Annalise Basso) and Pike (Steven Ogg), in Season 3, and temporarily to Joseph Wilford (Sean Bean), ‘Snowpiercer’ Season 4 on AMC+ kicked off with the introduction of new rivals to the storyline.
Admiral Anton Milius (Clark Gregg) and his soldiers ambushed Bess Till (Mickey Sumner) and Ben (Iddo Goldberg) by setting a trap, hijacking Snowpiercer, and forcing Melanie Cavill (Jennifer Connelly) to surrender the engine.
Admiral Anton Milius's soldiers may not be evil in 'Snowpiercer' Season 4
Milius appears to be a ruthless figure, not only forcing his way onto Snowpiercer and kidnapping Andre Layton's (Daveed Diggs) daughter but also overseeing some dangerous experiments.
A toxic gas in the last compartment of the train has already claimed several lives, and Milius shows no signs of stopping.
Despite his complex personality—balancing between villain and potential savior of humanity—it seems that his soldiers may not be inherently evil.
Up until Episode 4, the soldiers have only been observed quietly following Milius's orders to maintain peace and order on the train. They have not engaged in violent altercations, harassed passengers, or confronted enemies.
One of the soldiers stood still when Miles (Jaylin Fletcher) was communicating to his friends on Big Alice. Additionally, when another soldier caught Nima trying to disable the trap for Andre Layton, he didn't torture him as well, despite having enough reasons.
Soldiers are victims of Nima Rousseau's failed experiment in 'Snowpiercer' Season 4
Episode 4 of 'Snowpiercer' Season 4 suggests that the soldiers in metal suits might be victims themselves. Despite being on the train, they are compelled to remain in their suits at all times.
Some of the soldiers have lost their lives while working on the retrofit. Additionally, an interaction between Nima Rousseau (Michael Aronov) and a soldier hints that these soldiers might be suffering due to an experiment gone wrong.
The soldiers bear brutal scars on their bodies, likely from side effects of the experiments. They have pipes fitted into their necks and experience recurring pain. Nima tells the soldier that the test trials affected their respiratory system.
This hints that Nima and his team of scientists may have been working on making cold-resistant men, an experiment similar to Joseph Wilford's.
Conducted on several of Milius's soldiers, Nima's experiment may have had unintended and severe consequences
During the episode, Nima's willingness to poison the soldier without hesitation suggests that he may not be as humble as he seems.
Another scene from the episode supports this theory, as Milius blames Nima and 'his friends' for their current predicament and becomes determined to rectify the situation.
Four episodes of 'Snowpiercer' Season 4 are now streaming on AMC+.
