'The Pitt' recently dropped its episode 11 on HBO Max, and things are seemingly going downhill at the ER again. For the unversed, Season 2 of creator R. Scott Gemmill's medical drama, starring Noah Wyle as Dr. Robby, follows the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center throughout a holiday shift on the 4th of July. As if the steady inflow of patients and the lack of staff weren't a glaring cause for concern, the writers of the show made sure that PTMC is besieged by a malware attack that pulls all modern medical equipment offline. This state of affairs forces doctors and staff to resort to analog methods to keep up. Moreover, the episode also indicated that the life of new nurse Emma, played by Laëtitia Hollard, might be in grave danger.

Towards the latter half of the episode that chronicled the events of the hour between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m., an unconscious patient by the name of Curtis Larson was brought in by one of his friends. Larson is seemingly drunk and passed out, and had to be sedated by the paramedics so that they could read his vital signs. The friend also adds that Larson was not quite himself and picked a bar fight before the others called the cops. The primary diagnosis leads to Larson being consigned to sleep off his hangover, with a steady supply of IV fluids. Things quickly take a turn for the worse when Emma visits his trauma room, doing her job of checking his vitals and status. All of a sudden, Larson abruptly sprang to life. He quickly tore off the IV pipes and grabbed Emma by the neck, forcing her into a chokehold.

The assault stuns Emma for a while, rendering her unable to shout for help or defend herself. In its closing moments, the episode depicts Emma fighting for her life while the rest of the ER continues fighting through a chaotic shift. Although Emma's ultimate fate remains unclear, one might expect the HBO Max medical drama to provide answers in the next episode, and that's what 'Code Hula Hoop' meant. It seems unlikely that a patient will suffocate an on-duty nurse to death at the ER. Nevertheless, the very fact that such an incident occurred indicates serious security gaps within the staff.

Elsewhere, the episode also saw the heartbreaking death of the long-suffering patient Roxie. The arrival of the ICE Agents with their captive Pranita sparked off a wave of insecurity among other waiting patients and even nurses, prompting them to leave in haste. Dr. Langdon and Santos finally spoke their minds in a heated exchange. 'The Pitt' airs new episodes every Thursday on HBO Max.
