LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'Snowpiercer' Season 4 introduces fresh antagonists after the previous ones either lost their lives or were defeated by Melanie Cavill (Jennifer Connelly) and Andre Layton (Daveed Diggs).

In Episode 1 of Season 4, Admiral Anton Milius (Clark Gregg) from the International Peacekeeping Force sets a trap for Melanie and forcefully boards Snowpiercer. Since then, chaos has erupted aboard the train.

Melanie is forced to surrender the engine after the Admiral threatens to kill her boyfriend and fellow engineer, Ben (Iddo Goldberg).

Melanie remains unaware of Admiral's intentions until she meets Nima, a scientist she recognizes from before the freeze. While she is initially surprised to see him alive, she is even more astonished by his recent discoveries.

He reveals that Admiral Milius assembled a team of scientists before the freeze and placed them in a bunker to work on a mission aimed at correcting the government's mistakes and pioneering a new era for mankind.

After establishing six warm spots using his compound, Nima and Admiral Milius now need to travel to the other side of the world to launch another missile that will advance their mission to reverse the ice age.

Why does Melanie Cavill remain important to Admiral Anton Milius in 'Snowpiercer' Season 4?

Admiral Milius held Melanie captive until she cleverly broke free. Later, when she went back to the Engine with a gun in her hand, the Admiral's associate didn't kill her.

Although Admiral Milius has stripped Melanie of her control over the Engine, he is not foolish enough to kill her without cause. Melanie is undoubtedly the best engineer in the post-apocalyptic world, possessing intricate knowledge of every detail about the train.

Killing her would only create more problems for them. Melanie's talent is the reason why Joseph Wilford (Sean Bean) didn't kill her even though she stole his train and left him to die.

Moreover, we anticipate that Admiral Milius might be working with Wilford and his return on Snowpiercer would once again pit the old rivals against each other for an epic showdown.

Episodes 1 and 2 of 'Snowpiercer' Season 4 are now streaming on AMC+.
