Elton John knew about Megxit plan before the Queen, was a 'rock' for Harry and Meghan during the exit process
Sir Elton John reportedly knew about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's exit even before the Queen had an inkling about it. An insider told The Mirror how the legendary singer-songwriter was a "rock" for the Sussexes as they contemplated their future in the royal family.
According to the source, Sir Elton spoke to the couple "every day" before they finally announced their plan to step back from their royal duties. That said, the 'Nikita' hitmaker was also a close friend of Princess Diana, Harry's late mother.
According to the report, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex told the singer about their Megxit plans before they revealed them to Queen Elizabeth II.
"He’s an inspiration, an almost 'motherly' figure," a source said of Sir Elton's relationship with Harry and Meghan. "They made their decision alone, but he’s a shoulder to lean on and listened as they spoke about their plans," the source added.
The insider added that Sir Elton was "a constant support" for the couple. Another source close to Elton told the outlet the star "has been their rock" throughout. "So while he would never tell them what to do, he has been a listening ear and support throughout," the source said.
However, speaking to The Post, a spokesman for the singer later insisted that Megxit still "came as a surprise" to him.
"The first that Elton heard of the details and timing of Harry and Meghan’s plans were when the announcement went up on their Instagram," the spokesperson claimed.
Previously, a rep told the Mirror how Elton supported the fact that Harry and Meghan were "admirably taking control of their own lives."
"He cares about them and their family deeply and is fully supportive of any decisions the couple make, knowing they are made by them alone, without outside influence and with their future happiness and well-being in mind," the rep said.
