LONDON, UK: Fans were shocked by Simon Cowell's 'unrecognizable' appearance as he took the stage at the Royal Variety Performance, which was filmed on December 2 and broadcasted on ITV on Tuesday, December 20. The 63-year-old music mogul's astonishingly gaunt face, which may have been the result of plastic surgery, diverted TV viewers' attention.

Things didn't go as planned when the X Factor judge unintentionally broke the golden buzzer, snapping it off the pedestal while introducing 'Britain's Got Talent' champion Axel Blake. Cowell made an appearance at the end of Nile Roger's performance and proceeded to press the buzzer. However, it broke when he hit it, leaving him holding the buzzer awkwardly in the air.

The record producer sparked concern for his appearance. One viewer tweeted, "After all that surgery, Simon Cowell has now become a very cheap Simon Cowell lookalike," while another quipped, "And here we have the melted corpse of Simon Cowell." Another tweet read, "Christ. Even my mam said he looks gaunt." A viewer chimed in, saying, "Simon Cowell's had a 'little work' done." Another concerned fan asked, "Just saw Simon Cowell on the Royal Variety Show. What has he done to himself? He looks really gruesome." Another viewer agreed by commenting, "Hahahahaah Simon Cowell on the royal variety show. State of that face man." Following the chaos that Cowell caused when he broke the buzzer from its stand, one viewer wrote, "Simon Cowell breaking the golden buzzer."

Earlier, Cowell reportedly shed 20Ibs following a lifestyle change that included a health and fitness regimen. The lifestyle change came after he broke his back in 2020 when he crashed his electric bike near his Malibu home. He suffered complications from the surgery, which required him to mostly stay in bed for six months. Cowell rearranged his work schedule to ensure he only started business meetings after 9 am, instead of attending conferences in the early hours of the morning like he used to. 

Talking about the star’s health, sources told Daily Mail, "Simon said how he hasn't worn trainers as much as this in 20 years. He feels fitter than ever before and is keeping to a normal routine rather than being on the phone until into the early hours of the morning."
