Simon Cowell blames 'American Idol' execs for grumpy image as 'AGT' fans allege he has turned 'soft and boring'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Simon Cowell gained fame thanks to his 'Mr Nasty' image on television. Apparently, 'American Idol's producers knew the character would work well, but Cowell, 58, has said he is not typically like that. In fact, viewers now believe that Cowell is being too empathetic on 'America's Got Talent' and has gotten "soft and boring," as reported by the Daily Mail.
Earlier, he told the Sunday Mirror, "I was not grumpy the whole time, They just decided, the producers, it would be funnier to make me looking miserable and it was sort of an accident. I found the process so miserable, I hated it." He added that he had not anticipated the program's popularity, which he left in 2010.
Romance with Lauren Silverman
Meanwhile, Cowell has maintained an amiable image in his personal life. His relationship with Lauren Silverman, 40, has been going strong for a decade now. The two officially became an item in 2013 after photos showed the television executive and Andrew Silverman's wife kissing on a boat. The couple welcomed son Eric in February 2014. The child was named after Simon's father, who died in 1999. According to reports, Cowell and Silverman's marriage is now in the cards, almost 10 years after the romance began.
The head of 'X Factor' previously admitted to The Sun that he had spent £2,000 ($2500) on a non-surgical facelift in an effort to keep his astonishingly flawless appearance. The TV personality allegedly went to the "Picasso of dermatology," cosmetic surgeon Dr Jean-Louis Sebagh, for a Silhouette Soft Lift, which promises to give patients a more "youthful" appearance.
Simon Cowell on his facelift
Simon said, "There's lots of things you can do now, you don't just have to stuff your face with filler and Botox. It hurts like hell but it gets rid of sun damage and unplugs all the crap. For me now, it's all about having clean skin, if you have clean skin, you look better."
Simon Cowell's early days
Eric and Julie Cowell welcomed Simon Philip Cowell into the world on October 7, 1959. Simon has four half-siblings, in addition to his younger brother Nicholas. John and June are from his father's previous marriage, while his mother had Michael and Tony from his first marriage, according to Simon Cowell's blog.
According to his own account, he had a privileged childhood in the Hertfordshire suburbs. Simon grew up next to several prominent neighbors from the film industry in Elstree, also known for its film and television studio. After working as a runner at Elstree Studios, Simon accepted a position at EMI Music as a mailroom boy. However, the job had no advancement opportunities, and Simon soon grew bored. He quit and temporarily worked as an estate agent, but eventually returned to EMI.
