OSAKA, JAPAN: The political realms of feudal Japan are hit with the addition of Lord Yoshii Toranaga's (Hiroyuki Sanada) half-brother, Saeki Nobutatsu (Eita Okuno), in FX's 'Shōgun.'
Created by Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks, the latest episode depicts Nobutatsu working on his goals rather than aiding his half-brother.
Furthermore, Toranaga's son Yoshii Nagakado (Yuki Kura) acts on his own, leading to a catastrophe that will undoubtedly impact the dynamics of the historical narrative.
Saeki Nobutatsu asks for Yoshii Nagakado's Seppuku in 'Shōgun' Episode 7
Ready to implement Crimson Sky's war tactic in motion, Toranaga's operations were hampered by a lack of necessary manpower as a result of the catastrophic earthquake that killed many of his soldiers.
Realizing that victory against the formidable Osaka was unlikely, the cunning warlord sought to bolster his forces by enlisting the aid of his half-brother, Nobutatsu.
So, the situation now is that the brothers have been estranged for quite some time. Seeking help from a sibling who despises you is not an ideal scenario.
Initially, the sibling duo swaps frigid vibes under the pretext of casual banter, but things take a sharp turn when Nobutatsu reveals his true objectives later in the evening.
He is now the newly appointed Regent and his objective is to secure Toranaga's surrender, not to assist him. Additionally, he demands Nagakado's Seppuku for his involvement in Nebara Jozen's (Nobuya Shimamoto) violent murder.
The revelation undoubtedly sends shockwaves, as Nagakado is seen on the brink of punching his uncle, only to be stopped by his father.

The following day, Nobutatsu overhears Nagakado telling Kashigi Omi (Hiroto Kanai), expressing confidence that his father will devise a viable plan.
Nobutatsu remarks that Nagakado should contemplate his legacy as time is running out. In response, the young man says, "If it is his fate to die, it will be a beautiful death."
Nobutatsu shows his nephew the mirror of reality, describing death as a lonely walk in the woods. Later, Nagakado is left stunned when Toranaga agrees to Nobutatsu's terms of surrender.
However, to say Nagakado is living in his own La La Land would be an understatement, as he proceeds with the plan to assassinate Nobutatsu despite lacking adequate battle experience.
But when the delusional man slips on his uncle's wet garment and falls onto a stone, his skull fractures, leading to his death
In the end, Nagakado dies, and the tragic reality is that his death was all in vain, further adding to Toranaga's already mounting misery.
It's worth noting that the passing of his son will undoubtedly lead to further complications for Torangna in the future.
It could potentially influence his decision to surrender or give Nagakado the upper hand.
It appears that Nagakado will now have the advantage and may choose to challenge Toranaga to a duel instead of taking him to Osaka.
Regardless of what unfolds in the upcoming episodes, you can expect a thrilling and unpredictable series of events, that will keep you at the edge of your seat.
The series premiered with its first two episodes on February 27, 2024, on Hulu and FX. The subsequent episodes are scheduled to be released weekly.
