‘Shark Tank’: Fans complain about losing interest in the show with the growing number of sob stories
On almost every episode of ‘Shark Tank’, we witness at least one entrepreneur break into tears when almost all the sharks express their disinterest or choose not to move forward with a deal. Then surprisingly, or rather unsurprisingly the presenter begins sharing a sad heartfelt story about all the sacrifices they had to make and the hardships they faced to reach their present stage. As soon as the sob story is recounted, often the presenter ends up securing a deal from at least one of the sharks.
We have witnessed this play out on our screens more times than we can count. So, on the recently aired episode 5, when the entrepreneurs pitching their product- Tailgate N GO, recounted their “sob story”, fans were disinterested. The entrepreneurs Ron, Taylor, and Kobe, presented a portable outdoor kitchen and were seeking an investment of $250K for 10% stake, sadly none of the sharks were interested apart from Kevin O’Leary, who made a very unattractive take it or leave it kind of deal.
After sensing that none of the sharks were interested, one of the presenters got all emotional and talked about all the hardships they had to overcome in order to see their business afloat. The audience didn’t enjoy watching it and expressed the same. A fan wrote, “Am I the only one who changed the channel when the sob story started”. Another fan pointed out, “Is there an episode of #SharkTank that doesn't include a sob story and/tears? Lol JESUS CHRIST. It comes like clockwork. Mention anything bout immigrants or struggle life and you sucker in an investor lol”.
In the end, the entrepreneurs managed to secure an investment from Matt Higgins. But a fan pointed out that although they secured the deal, it might not work out in their best interests. The fan explained, “I have a very strong feeling that this will fall through on due diligence. Going in “to save entrepreneurs from another shark” hardly ever succeeds in the end, even with a deaf person + entrepreneur crying sob story. Plus the fact that they went from a terrible deal from the only shark interested to a solid deal from a shark that should have been, but really wasn’t, interested in the first place.”
New episodes of 'Shark Tank' season 11 air at 9 pm. ET on ABC.
