Relationships of Shannen Doherty
People’s “iconic Hollywood 'bad girl' of the nineties" Doherty was previously married twice. The ‘Fortress’ actress married Ashley Hamilton, son of actor George Hamilton in October 1993, and the pair divorced in April 1994. In 2002, she got married to Rick Saloman but this marriage also lasted for less than a year. In 2011, the actress married Kurt Iswarienko at a private estate in Malibu. The couple does not have any children together.
About her marriage philosophy, the ‘Beverly Hills, 90210’ star said to People, “Marriage to me is such a gigantic commitment that it’s not something I’d ever go into lightly anymore,” before adding, “I’ve learned my lesson.”
Doherty’s ongoing battle with cancer
Doherty, who was previously diagnosed with Crohn’s disease in 1999, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. It was reported that her cancer also spread to her lymph nodes. During that time, in an interview with People, she said, “I am continuing to eat right, exercise and stay very positive about my life,” she continued. “I am thankful to my family, friends and doctors for their support and, of course, my fans who have stood by me.”
In 2016, she gave a health update where she revealed she was undergoing anti-estrogen treatment so that her lymph nodes can be shrunk in order to enable her treatment by lumpectomy instead of mastectomy. She told People during that time, “I’m 44 and my husband and I wanted children,” before adding, “For us, it has brought us closer together. It’s one of those times you get to test your mettle as a married couple.”
In 2016 only, she went through a lateral mastectomy. To ET, she said during that time, "I had breast cancer that spread to the lymph nodes, and from one of my surgeries we discovered that some of the cancer cells might have actually gone out of the lymph nodes," and added, "So for that reason, we are doing chemo, and then after chemo, I'll do radiation." She also remarked, "The unknown is always the scariest part," referring to the workability of chemo and radiation.
Even though her cancer was in remission in 2017, it relapsed again in 2019. In 2020, Doherty revealed it had relapsed and she was in stage four, reports NBC News.
In October 2021, she revealed to Good Morning America, she was still thriving at stage four cancer.
