BARCELONA, SPAIN: Shakira is currently going through one of the most difficult times in her life. According to reports, Shakira's mother was admitted to a hospital in Barcelona after a blood clot was detected in her leg. It was initially believed that Nidia Ripoll had a stroke. But according to sources close to Shakira, who is believed to have contacted the American Spanish-language TV network Telemundo on March 21, Ripoll's health issue was caused by a major vein thrombosis and had nothing to do with her brain.

The Colombian singer-songwriter has yet to respond to the news. However, it has been speculated that her choice to postpone her move to Miami with her two children after the split from her former partner footballer Gerard Pique was driven by concerns about her father William Mubarak's health following surgery in 2022, Daily Mail reported.

Who is Shakira's mother?

Shakira's mother Nidia del Carmen Ripoll has been an enthusiast for her daughter's music career from the beginning. Shakira's unexpected dance in a restaurant led Ripoll to see her daughter's potential for the first time. Ever since, Ripoll has actively supported her daughter's profession, as per AmoMama. Ripoll was reportedly hospitalized due to vein thrombosis which was initially thought to be a brain stroke.

Even though Ripoll doesn't make many public appearances, she has remained significant to the singer's success. She had a positive impact on Shakira's life and inspired the performer to chase her dreams and push herself to the maximum to excel in the business.

Shakira's mother first saw her as a performer when she was a little child. Ripoll has known Shakira will become famous one day ever since her daughter performed a dance sequence in front of a restaurant full of patrons without any prior training. When Shakira was still a young child, she started to move her hips to the music as her family was enjoying dinner.

What happened to Shakira's parents?

Doctors discovered her health issue after Ripoll reported feeling unwell the previous week and seeking medical attention. According to Telemundo and Spanish media, she was urgently brought to the hospital on March 17 but is now "out of danger" and will likely soon be permitted to return home.

Shakira's plans to fly out of Spain with her children may be delayed, but it is unclear at this time. In 2022, a fall caused Shakira's dad William Mebarak Chadid, 91, to be hospitalized in Barcelona. After being discharged from the exclusive Teknon Medical Center in November and placed under 24-hour expert at-home care, he celebrated Christmas with his daughter in the Catalan city.

The Colombian star was supposed to move to the US in January, but she postponed it till June. The 46-year-old was planning to move to Florida at the beginning of the year with boys -- Milan, 10, and Sasha, 8, after settling a child custody dispute with the former Barcelona defender.

Shakira is focusing on moving on

The Colombian singer has been focusing on taking care of her aged parents and doing her best for her children while moving on following her separation from the former Barcelona defender. Shakira's desire to relocate to Miami, where she had resided and where a part of her family is located, is believed to have been the main concern that prevented the former couple from reaching to an out-of-court settlement in the past. The couple split up in May 2022 after spending more than a decade together.
