LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: American rapper and singer Sexyy Red, whose real name is Janae Nierah Wherry, spoke in favor of the former President and Republican candidate Donald Trump for the 2024 presidential elections.

The 25-year-old Missouri-based rapper, whose latest album ‘Hood Hottest Princess’ is now out, said during an interview with Theo Von in his ‘This Past Weekend’ podcast, “I like Trump. They support him in the hood.”

She explained further the reason for her liking, “At first people didn’t f**k with him, they thought he was racist.”

Red continued, “But once he started getting Black people out of jail and giving free money, oh baby we love Trump. We need him back in office.”

Who discovered Sexyy Red?

Red first came into the limelight after she reworked Vanessa Carlton's ‘A Thousand Miles’ in her diss track ‘Ah Thousand Jugs’.

Per Billboard, Red’s 2018 single ‘Free Smoke’ was noticed by A&R representative Vladimir Laurent in 2021.

The general manager of the Miami-based label Rebel Music, Caprie Poe, said, “[She] was super raw and authentic,” before adding, “She always says what’s on her mind.”

Red later signed a contract with Rebel Music and brought out her first mixtape ‘Ghetto Superstar’ in 2021.

After collaborating with Summer Walker in the music video ‘Sense Dat God Gave You’ in 2022, Red released her breakthrough single ‘Pound Town’ with the Grammy-nominated record producer Tay Keith.

Later, she released a remix of the same song by the name ‘Pound Town 2’, where she collaborated with Nicki Minaj.

The breakthrough rap star is also friends with Travis Scott and Drake. In August 2023, she also performed in the opening act of Drake's 'It's All a Blur Tour'.

Previously, she appeared as a guest at Drake's tours.

Her 2023 album, 'Hood Hottest Princess', also has her highest charting single 'SkeeYee'.

Netizens slam Sexyy Red for supporting Donald Trump

As the statement made rounds on Twitter, it was not taken lightly by the netizens as they slammed the 'Hood Rats' rapper for her comment.

One angered netizen said, "“Getting black people out of jail and giving free money” thats all it takes to get her vote."

Another person stated, "He didnt even “give” us that money. Why r ppl acting like it came from his personal pocket? The government gets their money from us. He reimbursed tax payers, with pretty much pennies mind you. Its simple as that."

"That's all it takes to get most people's votes bffr," said a third person. One person expressed their doubt in her statement, saying, "I doubt she votes tbh."

"Won't need to be let out of jail if you don't go," quipped someone else.

Another social media user criticized her, saying, "And none of it is true. He got a few rappers out and the stimulus checks where only because of covid not like he woke up and said here is some money wtf."
