'DWTS' Season 31: Selma Blair dubbed an 'inspiration' for multiple sclerosis survivors after performance
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Fans were moved by the season premiere of 'Dancing With The Stars' on Monday. When Selma Blair, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2018, danced, there wasn't a dry eye in the house or among those who watched her on their screen.
Actress Selma Blair performed a stunning ballroom dance on stage with partner Sasha Farber. The duo danced Viennese waltz to David Cook's 'Time of My Life'. Because of her multiple sclerosis, she was concerned about her balance and everyone was rooting for her. But she understands that this show will benefit her in the long term since she needs to move her body. Selma surpassed everyone's expectations. For someone with her physical constraints, she possessed tremendous elegance and grace.

Following Selma's moving performance, many audience members were seen crying. Selma danced although experiencing discomfort from multiple sclerosis. She, too, started sobbing following her routine, overcome with emotion. Selma expresses her gratitude to Alfonso and covers her face as she sobs. Bruno believed she worked magic. Carrie Ann was fighting back tears and believed she danced it like a great artist. She "danced beautifully," in Len's words, with "lovely, lyrical movement." She is the ideal illustration, in Derek's opinion, of someone who refuses to allow their sickness to define them. It seemed overly brief.
Selma and Sasha receive a staggering 28 points from judges Bruno, Derek, Len, and Carrie Ann. "I've never danced and this is a dream come true," Selma says.
Not only everyone present in the studio but anyone who witnessed the performance was left with teary eyes. One fan wrote how 'inspirational' her performance was given her conditon: "I almost cried seeing Selma Blair dance! It was so inspirational… especially for others who have MS or any other invisible illness! It truly touched my heart!!!! God bless! #DWTS." Another fan thanked her for representing the MS community: "Selma Blair that was beautiful. Thank you for you courage and strength representing the MS community. #DWTS." Fans were also happy to see pro dancer Sasha letting Selma take the lead: "Sasha really allowed Selma to take the lead #DWTS." Fans are now hoping to see their favorite contestant go farther into the competition: "I f**king love Selma Blair. Please for the love of god allow her to go far on #DWTS."

A few fans also call out the judges for giving Selma not high enough score in comparison to TikTok star, Charli D'Amelio: "I call shenanigans! They gave Charli all 8 over Shangela, Selma & Wayne?!?!? No shade to the young girl but … No. #DWTS31 #DWTS #Shangela." After her emotional performance, fans are now rooting to see more of her work: "Ok I have always loved Selma Blair but now I love her more. Get this woman back in the limelight and on my tv in something NOW #DWTS #DWTS31." Hoping to see her not ditch her cane the next time, a fan from the MS community tweeted: "I thought Selma Blair danced beautifully tonight! Though I don't like that she "left behind" her cane at the start of the dance, my stick is pretty dope and I wouldn't ditch it #thisisms@CoolCrutches @officialdwts #dwts." However, some viewers also don't want Selma to be getting sympathy votes because of her condition, as they write: "I understand Selma has MS and I definitely commend her for coming. She did well for her first dance. But I don’t wanna see people giving her sympathy votes. Ahht ahht. If she don’t do good send that ass home! #DWTS."
