SAN FRANSISCO, CALIFORNIA: The new Twitter Blue, which costs $8 per month and gets you a blue verified check mark, has gone live. The subscription service, which is available in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the UK as of now, provides several benefits, including verification, priority in replies, mentions, and search, and see 50 percent fewer ads than non-subscribers.

However, an account’s verified badge will let one know whether the badge is a verified public figure or they have bought verification through Twitter Blue. One simply has to go to a verified user's profile page, and tap on the blue checkmark to see. And this has led to the mocking meme ‘this mf paid for Twitter,” with one of many saying, “It's literally a self-inflicted badge of shame," on a tweet that read, "lmao Twitter built the "this mf paid for twitter" meme right into its paid Twitter Blue subscription. If you click a blue checkmark on a user's profile, it'll show you if they were given one as an actual notable user or it'll show you that this mf paid for twitter."

Commenting on the thread, one more called the badge "The mark of shame." While a commercial photograoher wrote, "For the record I’ve always paid for Twitter Blue. Today they just canceled the old grandfathered $2.99 subscription and charged for the new $7.99 Blue. Now I have to decide what to do with this badge of shame. I love Twitter, but not $8 love." "Bought Twitter blue and I can’t hide the badge you get and can’t hide the shame of buying Twitter blue," said an individual.

On the other hand, many continued to make fun of the ones who subscribed. A user wrote, "Twitter Blue mf's when they realize they're still gonna get 0 followers/day." One more said, "mf u dont even tweet and u bought twitter blue?"
