Selena Gomez is urging her fans to "stop tearing other women down" amid controversy in the wake of her new single, Lose You To Love Me, which was recently released.

In a bid to put an end to the trolling endured by Hailey Bieber, the 27-year-old singing sensation took to her Instagram October 23 night. The song has been the subject of much speculation, with several of her fans construing it as a heartbreaking farewell to her on-and-off relationship with former boyfriend Justin Bieber.

Selena had a turbulent relationship with Justin Bieber from 2010 until 2017, before he got back together with former flame Hailey and married her. In her latest single, Selena sings about being "replaced" within just two months. However, she is now having to defend Hailey against online trolls which abused her after the release.

Hailey was subjected to even more hate from Selena's superfans after she revealed she was listening to a song titled 'I'll Kill You' soon after the release, which many took as a direct response to the new track.

"I am so grateful for the response this song is getting. However, I do not stand for women tearing women down. And I will never, ever be by that", Selena said, speaking directly into the camera. "So, please be kind to everyone. It doesn’t matter what the situation is, if you’re my fans don’t be rude to anyone, please."

"Don’t go off and say things that you just feel in the moment", she continued. "Just please, for me, know that that’s not my heart and my heart is only to release things I feel that are me and that I’m proud of. And that’s all that I’ll say."

'Lose You To Love Me' appears to be about Selena's failed relationship with Justin. The lyrics seem to reference the short amount fo time Justin took to move on and get together with Hailey.

The song goes, "You turned me down and now it's showing/In two months, you replaced us/Like it was easy/Made me think I deserved it."

Hailey shared a screenshot of a Summer Walker song she was listening to shortly after the song was officially released. It was titled, "I'll Kill You."
