As Marcus, Taryn and India introduced themselves, they explained their interesting family dynamic. Marcus and Taryn met when they were in college -- Marcus was sleeping with one of Taryn's friends at the time and was quickly enamored by her, they two eventually started going out, with Marcus admitting on camera that he took her virginity. The pair eventually got married and had a daughter together. However, Taryn explained that at the time, Marcus was cheating on her and took advantage of the fact that she was 'understanding and cool'.

Taryn moved out of their home and the pair were separated for a year. During this time, Marcus met India and the pair quickly started a romance and even got engaged. When Taryn and Marcus began talking again and reconciled, she was surprised to find out that he was engaged. But, to curb his cheating, they agreed to enter a polygamous relationship. Fans were shocked to learn the truth, especially since Marcus is back at it, hoping to add a new wife.
