She stated, "As artists, and as filmmakers, I believe it's not only our job to entertain, but our duty to inspire and educate for love and respect.”
She went on to say, "in the past weeks and months, we've been witnessing a movement in our industry and society, and I want to share this award with all the women and men who stand for what's right: Standing for those who can't stand or speak for themselves. My promise and commitment to all of you is that I will never be silenced, and we will continue [to] band together to make strides, uniting for equality."
Claire Foy (2018)
Claire Foy was chosen as the SeeHer Woman of 2018 for her continuous efforts in choosing complex women character portrayals and she received the award from Viola Davis.
In her speech, she said, "I accept this award as an encouragement to myself to be brave enough to face and see myself, and by doing, hopefully, I can understand and see others, and ultimately I can help others to see themselves.” Some of Foy’s most iconic roles include Lisbeth Salander in ‘The Girl in the Spider's Web’ and a young, straight-headed Queen Elizabeth II in Netflix's ‘The Crown.’
Kristen Bell (2019)
Kristen Bell received the SeeHer award in 2020 for being chosen as the Woman of the year for 2019. While receiving the award, she stated, "What does it mean to be a woman today?" ‘The Good Place’ star continued, "my immediate reaction is always to answer with words like 'strong' and 'brave' and 'powerful,' but if I'm being honest, to me, being a woman is not about being brave or being strong or being powerful. It's not about being anything specific.”
She added, "It's just about giving yourself permission to be the things that you already are — which seems very easy, but it is not. Because women have been conditioned to fit into boxes — usually tiny, pretty, sparkly boxes with bows on them, generally."
