Sean Connery's death certificate says he died of pneumonia and heart failure, NOT Covid-19 as some rumors claimed
Sean Connery recently died in his sleep, following pneumonia and heart failure. The 'James Bond' icon died at the age of 90 in his Bahamas home after he had been unwell for a while. According to TMZ, Connery's death certificate had shown that the Oscar-winning star had died on October 31 at 1.30 am from respiratory failure as a result of pneumonia, old age and atrial fibrillation, which is irregular heartbeats.
At the time of his death, his wife Micheline Roquebrune paid tribute to her "gorgeous model of a man". Connery had played the role of James Bond between 1962 and 1971 and had won many acting awards for the same. He had won an Oscar, two Bafta awards and three Golden Globes. He had also been knighted by the Queen in Holyrood Palace in 2000. Connery had become a huge star in 1962 after the release of 'Dr No' and went on to star in seven 'James Bond' films between 1962 and 1983, with some of his best work being 'Goldfinger' and 'From Russia with Love'.
Micheline had revealed how the last few months before Connery's death had seen him with dementia. She shared, "It was no life for him. He was not able to express himself latterly. At least he died in his sleep and it was just so peaceful." "I was with him all the time and he just slipped away. It was what he wanted. He had dementia and it took its toll on him. He got his final wish to slip away without any fuss," she added. Connery's son, Jason, spoke to BBC and said, "A sad day for all who knew and loved my dad and a sad loss for all people around the world who enjoyed the wonderful gift he had as an actor."
Fellow Bond actor, Daniel Craig, wrote, "It is with such sadness that I heard of the passing of one of the true greats of cinema. Sir Sean Connery will be remembered as Bond and so much more. He defined an era and a style. The wit and charm he portrayed on screen could be measured in mega watts; he helped create the modern blockbuster."
'James Bond' producers Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli said, "We are devastated by the news of the passing of Sir Sean Connery. He was and shall always be remembered as the original James Bond whose indelible entrance into cinema history began when he announced those unforgettable words — 'The name’s Bond... James Bond.'"
We had earlier reported that as the news of his death spread across social media, false rumors started doing the rounds as people wondered if Covid-19 had a role to play in his ill health. These rumors have been put to rest with the reveal of his death certificate which states he died of respiratory failure.
Connery was married to actress Diane Cilento from 1962-73. The couple divorced in 1973 and Cilento died in 2011. He is survived by his second wife, Micheline, a painter, whom he married in 1975, his son by Cilento, actor Jason Connery and a grandson from Jason’s marriage to actress Mia Sara.
