It wasn't just the movie stars. Gary Lineker, one of the greatest English football strikers took to Twitter to share his thoughts as well. "Shaken and, on this occasion, stirred to hear that Sir Sean Connery has passed away. Had the pleasure of playing golf with him on a couple of occasions. A real character and for me, the best Bond. James Bond should be immortal. RIP"

'Star Trek's George Takei called him a suave hero. "Sean Connery was a movie legend, even far into his golden years. Our strongest Bonds were formed by him, and he was Untouchable. He passed today at age 90, a suave hero to the end."

Talking about his father's demise, Jason Connery said his father "had many of his family who could be in the Bahamas around him," according to BBC. "We are all working at understanding this huge event as it only happened so recently, even though my dad has been unwell for some time. "A sad day for all who knew and loved my dad and a sad loss for all people around the world who enjoyed the wonderful gift he had as an actor."

Piers Morgan termed Connery as "The Best Bond" in his Twitter tribute. "RIP Sir Sean Connery, 90. The first James Bond. The best James Bond. What sad news," he wrote. Horror novels legend, Stephen King recalled Connery's first film: "Sean Connery in his first starring role, as a washed-up boxer. He was a fine actor and by most accounts a good guy."

Connery was widely regarded as being the best actor to have played 007 in the long-running hit franchise, often being named as such in polls in comparison to his successors.
