Scarlett Johansson's son Cosmo became cherished 'set baby' on 'Asteroid City' shoot
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Scarlett Johansson is set to dazzle audiences once again with her upcoming role in Wes Anderson's highly-anticipated film 'Asteroid City'. But it seems that her on-set performance was overshadowed by an adorable little scene-stealer, her beloved son Cosmo.
While filming 'Asteroid City', Johansson's son Cosmo, who will soon celebrate his second birthday, captured the hearts of everyone on set. The 'Black Widow' star revealed, "I actually wasn't popular, it was just the baby," she told People about her son with husband Colin Jost. "People were excited to see the baby, not me. They're like, 'Oh, it's you. Where's baby?'"
Scarlett Johansson's beloved 'set baby'
Johansson and Jost sealed their love in an intimate ceremony in October 2020 after getting engaged in May 2019, following two years of dating. The couple's joy expanded with the arrival of their first child together, son Cosmo, who was born in August 2021. Cosmo became the beloved "set baby," drawing attention and affection from the cast and crew of 'Asteroid City'.
Johansson's husband, Jost, also spent time with them on set, making it a family affair. Johansson shared, "My family came [with me to set], my husband and baby did because we had just had a little baby." “Some people had partners that came up,” Johansson continued. “Most people were alone, I think. A lot of people had children too, but maybe a little bit older.” “I just had a tiny, tiny baby,” she said, adding that Cosmo was like the "set baby.”
'No, he's already here, he's out!'
According to Jason Schwartzman, one of Johansson's co-stars, said the joy and happiness Cosmo exhibited was contagious. "I think people are excited to see the joy [of the baby]," he said. Cosmo's name seems related to her nature as revealed by Johansson.
During an interview with Kelly Clarkson, she explained, "They are both flowers. Not a lot of people make that connection. Cosmo is a really sweet little flower that comes in different shades of orange and yellow. That's why my daughter is like it too," she added.
Johansson found the name "refreshing" and "so charming" and it received positive feedback from their friends. While it took some time for Jost's mom to come around to the name. "She kept suggesting other versions of it and I'm like, 'No, he's already here, he's out.'” With a talented mother like Johansson and a heartwarming presence like Cosmo, it's no wonder the "set baby" stole all the attention on the 'Asteroid City' set. We can't wait to see Johansson's mesmerizing performance alongside her little scene-stealer when the film hits the big screen.
