Scarlett Johansson shares how reuniting with former co-star Bill Murray was 'therapeutic'
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: During an episode of the Goop podcast with host Gwyneth Paltrow, Scarlett Johansson recounted a surreal experience where she unexpectedly ran into her former 'Lost in Translation' co-star, Bill Murray, more than 10 years after filming the 2003 movie. Johansson revealed, "I didn't see him for a decade or more. It was a long time. And then I walked into a bar with my ex-boyfriend from a long time ago... and there was only one person at the bar and it was Bill Murray."
She went on to describe her initial reaction, saying, "It was so weird. I walked in, and I saw him sitting there — nobody else there — and I was like, 'Oh my God.' I had to walk out. I was like, 'It's Bill! I haven't seen him in so long.'" Despite feeling taken aback, Johansson decided to face the unexpected reunion head-on, stating, "It had been a decade of time, more than a decade of time. [I was] like 'All right, I guess I'll have to go and see what's up.'" Reflecting on the surreal encounter, Johansson said, "It was such a weird moment. It was like a dream. And then I went in there and he was also surprised. Actually, it was kind of therapeutic. We sort of talked through that time."

Johansson on reconnecting with Murray
Johansson further shared that their experience filming 'Lost in Translation' was challenging for Murray as he had personal issues with his family and marriage at the time. "It was like he was also not totally knowing what we were doing out there in Tokyo over those weeks," she said.
Johansson added that Murray coped with his difficulties by being manic, which ultimately led to a cathartic experience when they randomly reunited in a bar years later. In 'Lost in Translation', Johansson and Murray played the lead roles of Charlotte and Bob, respectively, in Sofia Coppola's romantic comedy-drama. The film portrays the characters' struggles with their personal and professional lives as they navigate Tokyo together.
Murray faces allegations of sexual misconduct
In April 2022, Murray faced allegations of sexual misconduct on the set of the movie 'Being Mortal'. The actor addressed the accusations in an interview with CNBC, stating that he "had a difference of opinion" with a woman working on the production. Following the news, other actors, including Lucy Liu, Geena Davis, and Seth Green, shared their negative experiences working with Murray on set.
Recently, Searchlight Pictures suspended production on a film in which Murray was named in a complaint. The production company is currently investigating the matter, and it is unclear whether Murray will return to the project. This isn't the first time Murray has been accused of misconduct. Lucy Liu previously spoke out about Murray berating her on the set of Charlie's Angels in 2000.
