Sarah Jessica Parker upset over leaked cameo in 'And Just Like That' as Kim Cattrall says it's her last time as Samantha
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Sarah Jessica Parker shared her feelings about Kim Cattrall's cameo as Samantha in 'And Just Like That' during a recent interview. The 58-year-old 'Sex and the City' star expressed her disappointment after the details of Samantha Jones' cameo were leaked.
Parker revealed that she was deeply upset upon learning about the leaked information, which was initially reported by Variety. Parker, who plays the iconic character Carrie Bradshaw in the show, described the leaked details as a "big bummer" during an interview with Sirius XM’s Radio Andy. She expressed her disappointment and mentioned that the show will now lack the anticipated "fireworks" in the scene due to the leak.
'We want to make sure that expectations are real'
"It’s a big bummer because it would have been so … like fireworks in the middle of it," Parker said. Additionally, she emphasized the importance of keeping the cameo a secret in order to meet the viewers' expectations. They wanted to preserve the element of surprise and ensure that the audience had an optimal viewing experience. "Also, because we want to make sure that expectations are real," the actress continued.
Parker provided fans with some insight into the anticipated moment between Carrie and Samantha in 'And Just Like That'. She referred to it as a "little exchange," sparking further curiosity among fans about the dynamic between the iconic characters. "It’s a little exchange that is happy," she gushed. "It says everything about their relationship and other stuff that’s off-camera."
Last week, Parker spoke to ET about Catrall's reprisal of her iconic 'SATC' character Samantha in the Max series. "I was really excited about the idea," she told the outlet. "I thought it was a really good idea and I was thrilled that, you know, we could make it happen and that it worked for her and it’s just really nice to see. It’s really nice. I was really pleased."
'That’s as far as I’m gonna go'
Kim Cattrall's return to the iconic role coincides with a strained relationship between her and Parker that shows no signs of healing any time soon. The estrangement became public in October 2017 when Cattrall stated that she was "never friends" with her co-stars. During a recent interview, Cattrall hinted that her cameo in 'And Just Like That...' will mark her final return to the 'Sex and the City' universe. Speaking to the Today show about the experience, Catrall said, "It felt like dipping my toe back in time and having a wonderful afternoon." When asked whether it made her want to dip her toe "even further in", the actor responded, "That’s as far as I’m gonna go."
Following up, the interviewer asked, "But did it make you say goodbye to Samantha or no?" "I don’t think I’ll ever say goodbye to Samantha," Cattrall answered. "She’s like a lot of other characters that I’ve done over the years. I get very emotionally attached and protective of my characters. She gave me so much, and I’m so appreciative of her."
