Sandra Bullock reveals she had a major crush on Keanu Reeves while filming 'Speed': 'It was hard'
In a light-hearted moment, the actress also revealed that during filming, it was Reeves' job to keep her outfit from flowing too much
Sandra Bullock is not making any excuses for her feelings anymore. The actress recently revealed that she used to have a major crush on her 'Speed' co-star, Keanu Reeves, which at times made it difficult for her to keep a straight face while filming with him.
The 54-year-old actress admitted it was "hard" to concentrate on set with Reeves around during a recent interview with Ellen DeGeneres, on the show's 25th anniversary.
The action film, which Bullock credits with "launching" her career, sees Reeves play Jack, a young police officer tasked with preventing a bomb from exploding on a city bus by making sure it maintains a speed above 50 mph.
Bullock, on the other hand, plays the role of passenger Annie, who ends up taking the wheel after the original bus driver gets injured.
On her show, DeGeneres shared an image taken from a scene between Bullock and Reeves, which promptly made Bullock gush over the actor and talk about how adorable the leading man was. "I think about how sweet Keanu Reeves was and how handsome he was," Bullock whispered to the audience. "It was hard. It was really hard for me to really be serious. He’d look at me and I’d be like [giggle]."
In a light-hearted moment, the actress also revealed that during filming, it was Reeves' job to keep her outfit from flowing too much. "My dress sort of kept flying up and I said, 'Whatever you do, just keep my dress down'," she said. "The whole stunt he just made sure my dress [stayed down]. It was very sweet."
However, when she was asked if the pair eventually ever dated, Bullock couldn't help but burst out into a laugh. "Never dated him. There’s something about me that I guess he didn’t like," Bullock chuckled, while DeGeneres assured her that wasn’t true.
Meanwhile, Bullock maintains that keeping things professional led to an everlasting friendship. "He never, never … There’s nothing to intimidate. I’m not that," she added with a wink. Fortunately enough for her, the castmates later went on to film the drama 'The Lake House' together more than a decade later.
Reeves has previously spoken about a possible reunion with his former co-star. "Oh my gosh, yeah I’ve been trying," Reeves said in February 2018. "I’ve been looking for [projects] with Sandra — not with her, but for us." He said he hadn't found anything so far, but assured that he’s actively trying.
