LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Ryan Reynolds hit back in his usual witty way at the new SAG-AFTRA guideline regarding Halloween costumes in October.

On October 18, the organization posted a digital flyer on its strike website, requesting its members to avoid dressing up as any characters featured in struck films or shows.

The flyer further asks to refrain from wearing costumes of characters owned by struck companies, such as characters from Marvel movies, who are primarily owned by Disney.

Taking to X, Ryan, 46, joked in response to the advisory, "I look forward to screaming 'scab' at my 8 year old all night. She’s not in the union but she needs to learn."

The union reportedly clarified to The Hollywood Reporter soon afterward that the guideline "does not apply to anyone’s kids."

Mandy Moore also called out SAG-AFTRA for Halloween costume guidelines

The 39-year-old actress addressed the issue in a much blunter way than Ryan.

In an Instagram Story, Mandy wrote, "Is this a joke? Come on @sagaftra. This is what’s important? We’re asking you to negotiate in good faith on our behalf. So many folks across every aspect of this industry have been sacrificing mightily for months. Get back to the table and get a fair deal so everyone can get back to work. Please and thank you."

SAG-AFTRA's clarification

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the union issued a statement of clarification on October 20, writing, "SAG-AFTRA issued Halloween guidance in response to questions from content creators and members about how to support the strike during this festive season. This was meant to help them avoid promoting struck work, and it is the latest in a series of guidelines we have issued. It does not apply to anyone’s kids."

"We are on strike for important reasons, and have been for nearly 100 days. Our number one priority remains getting the studios back to the negotiating table so we can get a fair deal for our members, and finally put our industry back to work,” the statement added.

Internet reacts to Ryan Reynolds' tweet

In response to Reynolds' tweet, a user wrote on X, "It's never too early to learn about the importance of unions. Maybe start with a children's book on the subject?"

"Shouting 'scab' at your 8-year-old? Guess we're starting the labor movement young these days!" another quipped.

"I mean, that’s just good parenting!! They need to learn," someone else said.

"I have a donkey jacket, hi viz vest and some doc martens she can wear (official "scab" wear of the 80's here in the uk if you want to go retro) 🥰" a user said.

"Or, hear me out now, make her a scab costume, it'll be one of a kind and the talk of all the houses she visits. Could be the next Barney?!" another suggested.
