Country singer Russell Dickerson and wife Kailey expecting their first child: 'The dad shoes are official'
Country music artiste Russell Dickerson and his wife, Kailey, have announced that they are expecting their first child. The 32-year-old singer-songwriter shared the news on People on the morning of April 15, stating "THE DAD SHOES ARE OFFICIAL! WE'RE HAVING A BABY!!"
Dickerson has previously joked about his "dad shoes" — a pair of Nike Air Monarchs that are for some reason popular with dads and attract grass, at least according to Dickerson. And now he can rock those shoes while he rocks his baby to sleep — in a couple of months.
Dickerson first broke into the country scene with his 2011 EP 'Die to Live Again' before spending the next few years touring with and opening for top acts like David Nail, Canaan Smith, Thomas Rhett, Billy Currington, Lady Antebellum and Darius Rocker.
After initially releasing 'Yours' as an EP in 2016 to critical and commercial success, including charting on Billboard and iTunes before reaching the number one spot on Billboard's Country Airplay chart in 2018, Dickerson released 'Yours' as his first studio album in 2017, which went on to premiere at number one on Billboard's Heat Seeker chart.
The single 'Yours', released in 2015, continues to hold the record for the longest journey to number one for a solo male's first entry on the survey, having achieved the number one in the song's 39th week.
Dickerson was also nominated for 'Breakthrough Video of the Year' at the 2018 CMT Awards for his single 'Yours'.
Dickerson married Kailey in May 2013, and the couple reportedly conceived after trying for nine years. Speaking of the long wait, he said "It just got to the point where we’re like, ‘Well if it happens, it happens. It'll happen when it does. It's all God's timing on that part."
So when it finally happened for the couple, Dickerson was caught totally off-guard. "I was completely surprised," he stated.
The singer-songwriter's album 'Yours' included an acoustic wedding version of its title track which gained a following of its own, landing the track on the iTunes Best of 2015 year-end list, TheKnot.com's 'Best Wedding Songs of 2016', and Spotify's #SpotifySpotlight 2016.
When asked by a fan what inspired the track, Dickerson answered, "Being married to Kailey and how she really does make me such a better man." He also dropped the single 'Love You Like I Used To' in February, his first in over a year, which was inspired by Kailey as well.
Speaking about both songs, he shared, "With 'Yours', which was my first single, it's kind of like the newlywed song, and I wrote it six months after we got married...With 'Love You Like I Used To', it’s coming out about 10 years into being with my wife."
"We’ve been married about six-and-a-half years now so it’s about how love grows and how you’ve got to work for it. It’s like, 'I don't love you like I used to — I love you more. I love you more with every single kiss.' That’s the overarching theme of the song."
It doesn't get more heartwarming than that! And the wholesome couple can now share their love with the new member of their family! Keep up with Dickerson and his growing family on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.
