Queen did everything she could to 'accommodate' Meghan but it wasn't enough, says royal commentator

As Harry and Meghan Markle quit the British monarchy as senior members, a royal commentator has said the family members “did what they could to accommodate" Meghan, but sadly it was not enough.

Richard Fitzwilliams also said the American actress had all the traits to become a successful royal, but she chose to be out of it less than two years after she got married to Harry. Describing the couple’s exit as a “shame”, Fitzwilliams told Express.co.uk: “The date of Megxit will be remembered as one of sorrow. Harry and Meghan finally bow out as senior working royals though it is worth remembering that this arrangement, whereby they remain part of the royal family, keep their titles and don't use them and keep Harry's military posts vacant, will be reviewed with the Queen in a year. They cannot use 'royal' as a brand as they wished. It is indeed a shame that this has happened.”

He added, “What makes it so extraordinary is that it is less than two years since their marriage and they were planning a form of exit for months.”

Fitzwilliams admitted that he was a bit confused by the pair’s decision to leave royal life behind as he stated: “What was it that made them and royal life so totally incompatible when they were among the most admired members of the royal family with their amazing networking skills and charitable commitment?”

The royal commentator also mentioned Meghan’s interviews that she gave after she got engaged to Harry. He said, “Meghan seemed a trifle disingenuous when she said she knew little of the Royal Family in their engagement interview. I thought she could cope in the royal goldfish bowl but it transpired that she could not.”

The British public relations consultant also noted that members of the royal family “did what they could to accommodate her” but sadly it was not enough for Meghan. He continued, “Despite her articulacy and wide appeal as well as championing causes such as female empowerment so successfully, she found the pressures too much even though I think the royals, especially the Queen, did what they could to accommodate her.”

He also wondered whose advice the couple was taking as he added: “I kept wondering, as the rumors about rifts and rows following the wedding turned into really badly handled events, whose advice they were taking. The handling of the press when Archie was born and the christening, the guest editing of Vogue and the subsequent bad press overtaking private jets when they were supposed to have only two children to help save the planet, the attack on the tabloids at the end of their triumphal visit to Southern Africa, all of these seemed bad decisions.”

Deeming the Sussexes farewell to their fans on Instagram as “lackluster”, Fitzwilliams said, “But it could be the prelude to anything. Their fans online are totally supportive. The facts simply are that they are two of the biggest names on the planet. They have opted out of its most high profile royal family.

“The indications are that they will set up a sort of charity, certainly Harry's record with Sentebale, Invictus and Heads Together is truly amazing. Meghan is now at home, in Hollywood. Their statement when stepping back as senior royals caused a crisis and many of the problems they have had seem to have been linked to their defining of what is and is not private,” Fitzwilliams remarked, adding: “They now have their independence.

“I wonder if Harry has much regret now or will regret it in the future given his upbringing. He wanted Diana to be proud of him so let us see what they achieve as a couple with enormous global reach in the coming months.”
