A royal biographer has shared that the Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle made a grave "mistake" by ignoring the advice offered to her by Michelle Obama.

The former first lady had told Meghan that she should "take it easy" in her first year in the royal family, according to Angela Levin.

On ITV's new documentary 'Harry & Meghan: An African Journey', Meghan got candid about struggling to cope as a new mother in the spotlight. She added that no one had asked her whether she was ok.

Speaking to Sky News, Levin shared, "Michelle Obama told the press she had a long talk with Meghan – they’d become friends – and she said to her, 'for goodness’ sake, don't do anything in the first year. Listen, take advice, take it easy'."

"Meghan said that she wants to get going straight away. I think that was a mistake – she hasn't understood what it's like being a member of the Royal Family," she continued.

Michelle had also complimented Meghan for "breaking the mould" and for being a "thoughtful leader" on Instagram.

Ever since marrying Prince Harry last year, Meghan has been busy with tours to Australia and Morocco, launching a cookbook for the Grenfell Tower fire victims, editing Vogue and coming out with her own clothing line.

In ITV's documentary, Meghan was seen fighting back tears when she said, "Look, any woman especially when they are pregnant you’re really vulnerable and so that was made really challenging, and then when you have a newborn..."

"And especially as a woman, it's a lot. So you add this on top of just trying to be a new mom or trying to be a newlywed it’s, well…", she continued.

"And, also thank you for asking, because not many people have asked if I'm OK. But it's a very real thing to be going through behind the scenes," Meghan added.
