The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have welcomed their firstborn child into the world! A statement from Buckingham Palace confirmed that Meghan gave birth to a baby boy weighing 7lbs. 3oz. at 5.26 am on May 6, at Frogmore Cottage, and that both mother and child are healthy and doing well.

While it has been announced that his name will be made public this coming Wednesday, May 8, there is still little to no indication on who his godparents will be. It's very likely that Meghan and Harry already have quite a few names in mind already, but we will hear about their choices only on the day of his christening.

According to the Daily Mail, in the past, royal offspring have had as many as six godparents, and it seems likely that it'll be a trend that will continue with the newest royal, with some claiming that the couple may pick those who have already been entrusted the care of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's children.

But beyond such obvious picks, here are the frontrunners to become godparents to the boy who is seventh in line to the throne.

From Meghan's side, we might see Jessica Mulroney, who is widely thought of as the Duchess' best friend, as well as her unofficial stylist. While Jessica lives in the US, her close bond with Meghan was apparent during her wedding to Harry, where her four-year-old daughter Ivy was a flower girl. Her two other children, seven-year-old John and Brian, were similarly page boys.

Another option may be fashion designer Misha Nonoo who, despite being based in New York, has continued to maintain a close friendship with Meghan. Both knew each other long before Meghan met Harry, and many believe Misha is responsible for setting her friend up with the Prince.

Benita Litt who picked Meghan to be the godmother to her children might find herself receiving a similar honor from her good friend. A former entertainment lawyer, Litt was spotted with Meghan's mother Doria Ragland during her wedding, and even spent Christmas with her family in 2016.

Other possible choices include Lindsay Roth, who is her friend from her time at Northwestern in Illinois, Serena Williams, who she has been close to since they first crossed paths at the 2010 Super Bowl in Miami, Amal Clooney, Violet von Westenholz, and Heather Dorak.

Then, there are options from Harry's side as well. Mark Dyer, who is considered to be a "second father" and a mentor to Harry during his upbringing, would definitely be one of the considerations for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Then again, so would the likes of Mike and Zara Tindall, Harry's cousins with whom he has had a close bond since childhood, Jake Warren, the man who picked Harry to be the godfather to his daughter, Nicholas Van Cutsem, another friend since childhood, Tiggy Pettifer, a beloved former nanny, Charlie Van Straubenzee, a prep school friend, and Tom Inskip.
