Rose McGowan is facing a barrage of criticism online after tweeting out an apology to Iran for the US airstrike that killed General Qassem Soleimani, head of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards’ elite Quds Force. As is to be expected, her "apology" didn't go down too well with supporters of President Donald Trump.

"Dear #Iran, The USA has disrespected your country, your flag, your people. 52% of us humbly apologize. We want peace with your nation. We are being held hostage by a terrorist regime. We do not know how to escape. Please do not kill us. #Soleimani," McGowan tweeted on January 3.

McGowan tweeted out an explanation for the original message a little later, saying, “Ok, so I freaked out because we may have any impending war. Sometimes it’s okay to freak out on those in power. It’s our right. That is what so many Brave soldiers have fought for. That is democracy. I do not want any more American soldiers killed. That’s it.”

Well, that explanation hasn't stopped McGowan's detractors. A number of people have taken to Twitter to bash McGowan over her comments and here's what they had to say:

“I call bulls---. You said you couldn't 'escape' the U.S. and were being 'held hostage' by a 'terrorist regime.' STFU and buy a plane ticket ya f---ing walnut,” one user tweeted.

"So go live in iran where you are property and men will tell you when you can speak and where you can go. We dont want you," another user wrote.

"Standing with the Iranian people means knowing 1,500 of them were just murdered for daring to protest the regime, and that the terrorist general is the one who carried that out, along with killing protesters in Iraq," yet another user tweeted.

Meanwhile, McGowan has put out a number of tweets, clarifying her stand on the issue and the reason why she chose to apologize to Iran for the airstrike. In one tweet, she wrote, "Of course #Soleimani was an evil evil man who did evil evil things. But that at this moment is not the fucking point. The United States is morally corrupt and acts illegally. It is only logical to appeal to Iran’s pride by apologizing. I’m taking one for the team. "

In a later tweet, she also added that "I’m a registered Republican in California. I loathe the Clintons. I hate Trump. I will not vote Republican, but I cannot vote Democrat. I’d rather know what evil I’m getting, so I’ll go Republican. This is about WWIII, so none of that sh** matters anyway."
