‘Riverdale’ stars Lili Reinhart and Cole Sprouse have parted ways and are quarantining separately, says source
'Riverdale' lovers Lili Reinhart and Cole Sprouse have gone their separate ways after a nearly three-year relationship, according to a source. Speaking to Page Six, the insider claimed the twosome had recently split and have since been quarantining separately amid the coronavirus pandemic.
27-year-old Sprouse and 23-year-old Reinhart play Jughead and Betty on 'Riverdale'. The duo, affectionately known by their couple name "Bughead", began dating in 2017 -- the same year the show premiered on CW.
Over the past year, the couple has been hit with a slew of breakup rumors - all of which they have denied outright. However, the source told Page Six that Sprouse and Reinhart have separated for good. “Cole and Lili split before the pandemic hit, and have been quarantining separately. They remain good friends," they told the outlet.
The news comes after 'Riverdale' actor Skeet Ulrich’s girlfriend Megan Blake Irwin gave hints that the co-stars were on the outs. Ulrich, who plays Sprouse's on-screen father on the show, appeared on Instagram Live with Megan to answer some fan questions. “Do you think that Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart are a cute couple?” someone asked the 50-year-old actor.
“I think they were a very cute couple,” Skeet responded, before Irwin added, “They were a very cute couple,” emphasizing the word “were.”
“They’re both beautiful people,” she said.
Reinhart responded to reports of a possible split in July 2019. “Don’t believe everything you read on the internet, kids. And news sources should try a little harder to be less vile. ‘Reliable sources’ can kiss my ass," she tweeted at the time.
And in April last year, Sprouse reacted to speculation that he was dating model Kaia Gerber, slamming rumors and clarifying he only had eyes for his girlfriend Reinhart. “I tolerate a lot of rumors and slander from people online claiming to be my fans. Fans who feel entitled to my privacy precisely because I never indulge them,” Sprouse wrote on his Instagram Story at the time. “But attacking my friends, baseless accusations, leaking my address, and sending death threats are all qualities of insanity and fanaticism. Stop being [clown emoji.]”
The former Disney star went on to explain that he usually refrains from commenting on his personal life. He said, however, that staying silent was doing more harm than good in this case. “When I first stepped into a public relationship this was one of the foreseeable consequences,” he said at the time. “And while I truly never intended to indulge any part of my private life to the ravenous horde, it’s clear my restraint in updating them has allowed them to push their own agenda onto my habits and lifestyle.”
“So in conclusion- please eat my delectable plump ass. (Making me post a goddamn white font insta story like a divorced mother of three)," he added.
Sprouse and Reinhart have been in an on-again-off-again relationship since the start. The famous duo first made their debut as a couple at the Met Gala red carpet in May 2018.
