'DEFINITELY lying': Ripley’s slammed for denying Kim Kardashian ruined Marilyn Monroe's dress
Ripley's Believe It or Not! has issued a statement defending Kim Kardashian and denying the fact that she damaged Marilyn Monroe's classic 'Happy Birthday, Mr. President' dress after she wore it at the Met Gala 2022. Of course, they were instantly trolled. The news came to light when images surfaced on the Internet and people noticed some significant damage to the iconic 1962 dress. Reports claimed that Kim wore the dress for merely 15 minutes and that was enough for her to damage the dress as seen in several before-after pictures.
Ripley's took their official website to talk about the incident. "Ripley’s Believe It or Not! is not the first owner of this dress. It was acquired at a Julien’s Auctions event in 2016 for $4.8 million. A report written on the dress’s condition in early 2017 states, “a number of the seams are pulled and worn. This is not surprising given how delicate the material is. There is puckering at the back by the hooks and eyes," says the statement defending the 41-year-old social media star. Kim attended the event with her boyfriend Pete Davidson. It is also said that Kim lost a whopping 16 pounds to fit into the dress. Surprisingly, she explained her love and respect for the dress in an interview with Vogue saying, "I’m extremely respectful to the dress and what it means to American history."

Ripley's statement also said, "No matter which side of the debate you are on, the historical importance of the dress has not been negated, but rather highlighted. A entirely new group of young people has now been introduced to the legacy of Marilyn Monroe." It continued, "Kim Kardashian wearing the “Happy Birthday” dress has been hotly contested, but the fact remains that she did not, in any way, damage the garment in the short amount of time it was worn at the Met Gala." After thoroughly slamming the American personality on the Internet after this incident, people were quick to come after Ripley's Believe It or Not! also.
'Ripley’s was beyond irresponsible to loan this dress out'
Some people were adamant about the fact that it was Kim and no one else who caused the damage. One such user slammed the 1918 establishment and said, "Ripley's is 100% responsible for damage. Which did take place. Ask Bob Mackie if damage occurred (he sewed this dress by hand) or just look at images. Ripley's has a history of poorly treating their items. I'd be happy to testify with my own eyes on previous Marilyn owned items." Another user said, "Has museums etc ever considered NOT loaning out things that they deem important! KK could have easily had an exact replica made."

One user right away put the blame on the museum for loaning it in the first place and said, "Of course they did, they are at fault! Clearly Ripley’s was beyond irresponsible to loan this dress out." Another user compared the different body sizes which are visible and said, "How they two different shapes n sizes n she didn’t mess up the dress ? They know she stretched it n popped some of those diamonds she jus paid enough to have it fixed after."

A Twitter user got angry and tweeted, "Yeah, right!!! @KimKardashian @Ripleys we saw the video!! The pictures!! You just don’t want to look bad!! Too late!! The Kardashians will do anything for attention, then when they get caught, they act like It’s Not Me!!! Lol!!! You NEVER should’ve let her wear the dress!" Another user said, "Kim's behind is big asl compared to Marilyn's, she couldn't even zip it up. obviously the fabric is gonna stretch and be damaged it's really common sense Ripley is definitely lying."
