Actor-Comedian Ricky Gervais gained hundreds of thousands more fans and followers on social media after his brutally honest Golden Globes hosting performance on Sunday, January 5.

He welcomed at least 300,000 new followers onto his Twitter handle. Gervais shared, "Welcome to the 300,000 new followers I acquired today. I promise you won’t like everything I say, but here’s a sexy photo." The host kicked off the awards ceremony with a series of scathing remarks regarding Hollywood's silence about disgraced director Harvey Weinstein, Apple operating sweatshops and Jeffrey Epstein amongst other things.

"Apple roared into the TV game with The Morning Show, a superb show. A superb drama about the importance of dignity and doing the right thing, made by a company that runs sweatshops in China. You say you’re ‘Woke,’ but the companies you work for Apple, Amazon, Disney if ISIS started a streaming service you’d call your agent, wouldn’t you," Gervais added.

Gervais also made many stars nervous, especially who had worked for years with disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein. "Our next presenter starred in Netflix’s Bird Box, a movie where people survive by acting like they don’t see a thing. Sort of like working for Harvey Weinstein," he shared.

He had also called out actors who work with big organizations that pretend to be socially responsible but arent and said, "If you do win an award tonight, don't use it as a platform to make a political speech. You're in no position to lecture the public about anything. You know nothing about the real world. Most of you spent less time in school than Greta Thunberg."

"So if you win, right? Come up, accept your little award, thank your agent and your God, and f--- off," he continued.

The 58-year-old faced some criticism from elite media such as former Entertainment Weekly editor Mark Harris who shared that exposing celebrities as hypocrites is a "right-wing talking point." The comedian was quick to retaliate and slammed the criticism and commented saying, "How the f**k can teasing huge corporations, and the richest, most privileged people in the world be considered right-wing?"
