Cars frontman Ric Ocasek cut supermodel wife Paulina Porizkova from his will before his death: 'She has abandoned me'
Ric Ocasek cut estranged wife Paulina Porizkova out of his will before he died in September.
According to documents obtained by Page Six, The Cars' frontman wrote in his will, “I have made no provision for my wife Paulina Porizkova (“Paulina”) as we are in the process of divorcing."
“Even if I should die before our divorce is final… Paulina is not entitled to any elective share… because she has abandoned me," he added. Ocasek's assets constitute $5 million in copyrights, per the documents. However, the will only lists $15,000 in cash and $100,000 in "tangible personal property."
It was Porizkova who found the singer dead in his New York City apartment mid-September. According to the NYC medical examiner, the influential artist succumbed to hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.
The medical examiner asserted that pulmonary emphysema also contributed to Ocasek's death, adding that the manner of death was natural. According to the report, Ocasek was recovering from a recent surgery before his demise.
Ocasek first met Porizkova while filming the music video for Cars' hit single, "Drive", in 1984. The pair tied the knot in 1989 and split in 2017. Nonetheless, their divorce wasn't finalized before Ocasek died.
“Everyone who knew Ric knew that he could be aloof. And not particularly social. But when he decided to turn his focus on you, it was as if the sun came out," Porizkova wrote on Instagram following Ocasek's death, paying tribute to the legendary singer.
“His smile and his gaze warmed you and made you feel like the most special person in the world. I had that gaze and smile on me for most of my life. For a long long time, no one could make me feels as loved as Ric,” the grieving wife continued.
Ocasek had two sons with Porizkova - Jonathan and Oliver. He had four sons from a previous marriage.
