Rebel Wilson slammed for attending Beyonce concert in Dubai
DUBAI, UAE: Rebel Wilson sparked outrage among the LGBTQIA+ community after she attended a luxurious Beyoncé concert in Dubai, where homosexuality is illegal. The 'Senior Year' star shared footage over the weekend of her and her fiance, Ramona Agruma, visiting the Gulf city to attend the launch of a new lush hotel.
Atlantis The Royal is a 406,000sqm hotel featuring six towers, 795 rooms, 17 restaurants and bars, as well as the world’s largest jellyfish aquarium. Among other stars in attendance were Kendall Jenner, Liam Payne, Ellen Pompeo, Sonia Kruger, Jules Robinson and Natalie Bassingthwaighte. Beyoncé was reportedly paid a whopping $34M to perform at the hotel.

“Atlantis The Royal is BEYond! What a weekend with BEY!” Wilson wrote while sharing a clip of highlights from her luxurious weekend on her Instagram.
The actor, however, was blasted over her trip to Dubai, where homosexuality is illegal. "Rebel Wilson promoting a new hotel in Dubai is peak 'I’m gay but don’t give a f**k about other gays' energy cuz my privilege keeps me safe. It’s so gross," one wrote on Twitter. "Rebel Wilson has always had 'f**k you I got mine' energy, but the fact that she's promoting a hotel in Dubai as a gay woman is so...mind-numbing?" another fumed. "More importantly: why is she there? Their human rights aren't exactly their strong point!" a comment read.
Some even messaged her directly on her Twitter account. "Are you just going to turn your TikTok comments off and run away from a very real issue? Or don’t you care because you’ve already been paid? What a way to flaunt your privilege," one wrote. "Why are you promoting Dubai? A country where you can’t legally be gay? And then block all comments?" someone else chimed in.

Wilson notably came out as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community during Pride Month in 2022 as she revealed she was in a relationship with Los-Angeles based leisure wear designer Agruma. “I thought I was searching for a Disney Prince … but maybe what I really needed all this time was a Disney Princess #loveislove,” the 'Pitch Perfect' star gushed on Instagram alongside a photo of herself and her lover.
Wilson was lauded by many for coming out, but the actress apparently felt forced to share the news after a Sydney Morning Herald journalist publicly outed her in a story. “Thanks for your comments, it was a very hard situation but trying to handle it with grace," she tweeted on June 12, 2022.

The journalist in question, Andrew Hornery, wrote an article to defend himself, but it was taken down from the Sydney Morning Herald website. He has since apologized for his actions in a piece titled ‘I made mistakes over Rebel Wilson, and will learn from them.' Hornery admitted he "mishandled" the situation and that he would never intentionally out someone being a gay man himself. “I assumed there was a good chance she might be happy to discuss it," he wrote of Wilson, adding, "She had already revealed a month ago that she had been dating and was very happy.”
