Who was Goonew? DMV rapper killed in shooting, fans say he ‘pioneered a whole sound’
DMV rapper Goonew, who also went by the name of Big Wizzle was reportedly shot and killed on Friday, March 18. The hip-hop artist was reportedly transported to a local hospital after he was shot on 3400 Bl. of Walters Lane in District Hts, M.D. According to multiple reports, PGPD is investigating the matter as a homicide shooting.
Speaking of rappers getting shot and killed, artist VNZA was murdered in Missouri back in June. Brooklyn rapper Supa Gates too faced a similar fate after he was shot multiple times at St John’s Place near Troy Avenue in Crown Heights on April 11. Chicago rapper KTS Dre too made the headlines after he was shot 64 times on his head and other parts of his body in July 2021. Bay Area rapper Mike Darole was another hip-hop artist who was fatally shot during an attempted robbery in May 2021.

Rapper Goonew also went by the names of Goon Rich, Goonwick or Big64. The rapper was not much active on social media and enjoyed close to 150K followers on Instagram. Goonew was best known for his songs like ‘No Diss’, ‘Stain’, ‘Touchdown’, and ‘Down Bad’ among a few others. He was known for his unique flow and was considered as one of the biggest “new waves” of rap. Goonew was reportedly born and raised in Maryland- an area known for poverty and violence.

Social media users were left in shock after the news of rapper Goonew getting shot and killed surfaced on the Internet over the weekend. “Another young DMV talent gone. RIP to Goonew. Condolences to his family, friends, and fans”, said one user as another posted, “F**k man RIP Goonew it was a blessing to have gotten to work with u and have u at my studio..one of my favorite artists for years.”
