50 Cent tells Emmys to 'kiss his Black a**' after 'Power' snub, says he'll only support NAACP awards

The rapper Curtis Jackson aka 50 Cent is not just a chart-dominating rapper and colorful hip-hop legend, he's also a successful entrepreneur, actor and television producer. But now, it seems Fiddy has just burnt one of his bridges in the television industry when he point-blank insulted the Emmys, one of the most prestigious award organizations in American entertainment, which celebrates excellence in both daytime and primetime television.

On the night of August 4, the iconic rapper posted what appeared to be an artistic depiction of his backside, along with the provocative caption: "Ok here it is Emmy’s, My Black ass for your consideration to kiss🖕 F**k your organization I only care about NAACP awards. 🤨 #bransoncognac #lecheminduroi." With this racially charged post, 50 Cent clearly seems to be throwing shade for being snubbed by the Emmys while giving major props to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, which honors outstanding achievements in the fields of film, television, music, and literature. You can check out the sensational post by clicking here, it hasn't been deleted yet.

While the tagged luxury brands like Branson cognac and Le Chemin du Roi champagne are partnerships and tie-ins to 50 Cent's own brand of spirits, it's the spirit in which he posted this Emmy-baiting post that is sure to raise eyebrows and have people wondering if he was maybe intoxicated or merely outraged. The jab at the Emmys perhaps comes since 50 Cent is feeling ignored lately, after now being firmly entrenched in the world of television production, having already launched two film production companies, namely G-Unit Films in 2003 and Cheetah Vision in 2008. When G-Unit initially ceased its operations, Jackson threw his weight behind Cheetah Vision and obtained over 200 million dollars in funding in 2010 - the company primarily focused on low budget action thrillers for the foreign film market. That same year in 2010, Jackon revived G-Unit Films as G-Unit Films and Television Inc. and went on to hook up joint ventures with Will Packer Productions and Universal Television. In the space of the next year-and-a-half, he successfully sold projects to six different television networks, with probably the most famous one being the series 'Power', which ran for six seasons on the Starz network.

He famously co-created, executive-produced and starred on the show 'Power' as Kanan Stark, the friend-turned-rival of the show's protagonist, the drug dealer James "Ghost" St. Patrick, who was played by Omari Hardwick. 'Power' proved to be a huge success with television viewers and received rave reviews for its atmospheric drama and stellar casting throughout its six-season run, even earning an Outstanding Drama Series win in 2019 from the NAACP Image Awards, adding to its list of six other prestigious awards from organizations like the NAMIC Vision Awards and the Hollywood Music In Media Awards. However, it seems like the Emmys didn't really give 'Power' much love during the course of its successful run (not a single Emmy nomination), which is probably why 50 Cent has decided to stick it emphatically to the organization.

A spin-off series, titled 'Power Book II: Ghost' will premiere on September 6 next month on Starz network, so this might just be a publicity stunt as well to get viewers interested and invested in the new show. With someone as media-savvy as 50 Cent running operations, it's anyone's guess as to whether this was a premeditated move or merely an off-the-cuff reaction to a perceived blatant lack of respect from the Emmys.
