“My brother Randy has lost his battle with cancer. The family and I are grieving his loss but we know he is in a better place than we are at this time. We are a family of faith and we believe that he is safe with God and that he is joined by members of the family that have gone on before and have welcomed him with joy and open arms.”

Randy is survived by his wife Deb Parton, daughter Heidi Lou, son Sabyn and grandchildren Huston and Trent.

Who was Randy Parton?

Born on December 15, 1953, Randy was eighth among the 12 children of his parents Robert Lee Parton Sr and Avie Lee Caroline. Younger brother to both Dolly and Stella Parton, Randy was also an older brother of actress Rachel Dennison.

He grew up with his family in Sevierville, Tennessee. Since 1986, Randy managed his own show in Dollywood — the amusement park and tourist attraction in Pigeon Forge that is partially owned by Dolly. At the start of his career, Randy connected visitors in Tennesse with popular live performances from the star singers in his family. He was a ‘creative leader’ at Dollywood, as Dolly describes him in her post.

Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Randy recorded singles, of which his popular chart-topping duet with his sister Dolly — 'Old Flames Can’t Hold A Candle To You' — deserve special mention. In 1982, he recorded ‘Roll On (Eighteen Wheeler)', which shot him to fame after the band Alabama recorded the same in 1984.

What was Randy Parton's net worth?

Randy had a net worth of $10M and an illustrious career in country music. In 1984, he sang a song for the movie ‘Rhinestone’ where his sister Dolly played the role of Jake Farris, starring opposite Sylvester Stallone. He also regularly performed on stage with his sister, mostly playing bass and guitar in her band.

His standalone albums ‘There was a Dream’, ‘Shot Full of Love’ and ‘America, From Where I Stand’ deserve recognition. His singles such as ‘Hold Me Like You Never Had Me’ and ‘Shot Full of Love’ reached the 30th position on US Country Singles Chart.

His last song was a duet with Dolly — ‘You Are My Christmas’ on a 2020 album, where his daughter Heidi Lou also joined in. Parton dedicated the song to her brother and also revealed once that he was the family’s ‘Christmas’ baby since he was born around Christmas. "We always called him 'Christmas' just for fun.... I just thought, well, I'm gonna write a song for him to sing with me,” she mentioned in a 2020 interview with The Tennessean about her song.

In her tribute post, Dolly added: “Those wishing to honor Randy may donate to the Imagination Library in honor of both Randy and our father, Robert Lee Parton.”
