Queen puts on a brave face as she heads to church alone while Prince Philip spends third night in hospital
Queen Elizabeth put on a brave face as she attended church while Prince Philip, 98, spent his third night in the hospital.
The 93-year-old was seen accompanied by Prince Edward, his wife Sophie, and their two children. Prince Philip had been admitted to a private hospital on Friday, December 20, after he was flown from Norfolk in a helicopter. The Buckingham Palace shared that it was because of a 'pre-existing condition'.
Despite her husband's hospitalization, the Queen was seen smiling and waving to a crowd of 250 well-wishers as she arrived at the St Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham. The service was led by the Rev Jonathan Riviere and was kept relatively low key and was not broadcast on loudspeakers outside the church.
The royal was seen sporting a dark green coat with a matching hat and a pair of black gloves. She emerged after the 50-minute service and was also seen briefly waving to the crowd before getting back into the car and leaving. A witness, Eleanor Brown-Ahern shared, "We got a wave from her. She definitely looked in good spirits. She looked remarkably well considering what she has got going on at home."
"She looked stunning as always and the green outfit really suited her. I am always amazed at how mobile she is. She literally jumped out of the car and was upright straight away."
Royal aides have stressed that it was not an emergency though it led to fears for his health. As reported by Daily Mail, Prince Philip has become very frail over the last few months and was in ill health a week ago after contracting a flu-like virus. A spokesman shared that he will be likely to stay at King Edward VII’s Hospital in Marylebone for a few days and it is not clear if he will be discharged in time for Christmas.
