Queen seen driving without seatbelt after calling for 'emergency summit' over Megxit at Sandringham
A year after Prince Philip was involved in a horrific car crash and had a lucky escape while driving his Land Rover near the Royal Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, Queen Elizabeth II was spotted behind the wheel without a seatbelt near the same property on Friday, January 10.
The 93-year-old monarch donned a headscarf with a dog pattern and a winter jacket as she enjoyed a ride around her property in her car without being strapped in.
In January 2019, the Duke of Edinborough was driving without his seatbelt on when his vehicle collided with a Kia. While he and a nine-month-old baby came out unharmed, two women needed hospital treatment after the crash, in which Philip's car had overturned, Metro reported.
At the time, the 97-year-old duke blamed the crash on being dazed by the low setting sun as he pulled out of his driveway.
Emma Fairweather, who was one of the injured passengers in the crash and required treatment for a broken wrist, threatened to sue the royal for irresponsible driving after claiming that he had not reached out to her to apologize.
After the palace was severely criticized for the poor handling of the incident, Philip did issue a statement.
However, less than 48 hours later, the duke was back driving without seatbelt again. He did surrender his driving license a month after the incident.
One of the reasons that the queen might have forgot to put on her seatbelt could be because it has been a dramatic week for the monarch after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced that they want to quit as senior members of the royal family in order to become financially independent, splitting their time between North America and the UK.
The Queen was reportedly "hurt" for being kept in the dark about the decision and has ordered the palace officials to find a resolution to the crisis within 72 hours.
